Tom Holland is without a doubt one of the most talented actors the industry currently has and occasionally displays his acting prowess. The actor is now demonstrating, however, that he is also one of those artists who sincerely believe in the project they work on, and will continue to believe in it despite what the critics say.

The actor, who recently played Danny Sullivan in The Crowded Room on Apple TV+ had a candid conversation about his experiences playing a troubled character and how it affected his mental health. Holland, however, asserted that he is confident in his abilities and the story they intended to tell to the world with the show, noting that he is proud of what they have made.

Tom Holland acknowledges The Crowded Room being ‘horribly reviewed’

Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, during a recent interview with UNILAD’s Get a  Job, acknowledged that he is aware that his recently released show The Crowded Room has been horribly reviewed, but added that it is his resilience that makes him want to believe in the project he has been a part of.

Holland said, “I’m here today to promote the show. I’m still here. I’m very resilient. It’s a good quality in a new employee.” The actor went ahead to share what he wanted to convey with the show and explained that the message they wanted to give is simple yet complex: that people can ask for help, and when they do, we as a society should celebrate it.

The British actor explained that the act of asking for help is an act of bravery, which is why, he thinks that as a society we should celebrate it whenever it happens. He added that he feels that standing up and asking for help is not something one should be ashamed of and he is keeping his fingers crossed in the hope that his show continues to represent exactly that in a true, sensitive, and authentic way possible. He continued,

“Whether it is substance abuse, whether it is abuse at home, whether it is abuse at school, standing up and asking for help is not something you should be ashamed of and I hope that this show can represent that in a truthful and authentic, and most importantly, sensitive way. So, for me, if we can somehow make people feel empowered by saying, ‘I’m not feeling good, I really need some help,’ then we’ve done what we’ve set out to do.”

Tom Holland’s honest confession about working on The Crowded Room

The versatile actor has been honest about the way he felt while working on The Crowded Room. As he mentioned last month during an interview, it was a bit of a meltdown when it came to his own life following his work on the show.

He said at the time,

“I was seeing myself in him, but in my personal life. I remember having a bit of a meltdown at home and thinking, like, ‘I’m going to shave my head. I need to shave my head because I need to get rid of this character.’ And, obviously, we were mid-shooting, so I decided not to… It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.”

The Spider-Man actor mentioned that he is very aware of the physical aspects of the job of portraying someone on-screen, but the mental aspect in regards to The Crowded Room beat him up, adding that it took him a long time to recover and get back to reality.

Holland revealed that since it affected him mentally, that is why he decided to take a yearlong break from acting. But he is promoting the show and would like people to give it a fair chance to prove what it is meant to be made for.

The Crowded Room is now available to stream on Apple TV+.
