Tom Holland Just Exposed the Real Robert Downey Jr. Behind the Camera and The Ironman Star is Everything Fans Ever Thought He Was
When he played Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Holland became well-known, and his superb acting abilities and good looks have always made him an actor to look forward to. In the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War, Holland made his first Spider-Man appearance alongside actors Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and others.
The dedicated performer most recently played Danny Sullivan in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room. 1981’s non-fiction book The Minds of Billy Milligan has inspired the series in which Holland not only appears but has also executive produced it. Despite the show’s unfavorable reviews, the actor continued to promote the show and states that he is proud of it.
Tom Holland on learning quality from Robert Downey Jr.
During a recent interview with UNILAD’s Get a Job, Tom Holland appeared to promote his show The Crowded Room but was also asked about the one quality or lesson he had picked up from the co-stars that has been of value to him.
The actor said the most important lesson he has learned is from Robert Downey Jr. who is famously known for playing Tony Stark/Ironman in the MCU. Holland added that Downey is someone who leads by example, as he is always prepared with his lines, knows everyone’s name on the set, and is always on time.
The British actor extended his list of appreciation for Downey by explaining that he is very professional, kind, warm, and someone that Holland would aspire to be. In another interview, Holland recalled his first time meeting the Ironman actor and said,
“I go in this room to do an audition and I see Robert Downey Jr. I did the handshake and I started to panic (Oh My God! Robert Downey Jr) and I’m looking him in the face, and telling him there’s something different about you (in person). Did they do something to your face on camera? Like, you don’t look the same, and then Robert then walked in. And I realized I’d been talking to his stunt double the whole time.”

Tom Holland on receiving bad reviews for The Crowded Room
During the interview, Holland did acknowledge that he was aware that his show The Crowded Room failed to impress the critics as they thought it would and thus they received bad reviews for it. But he noted that it has not stopped him from promoting the show because he is very proud of what they have built.
The Spider-Man actor also joked, “I think being a Tottenham Hotspur fan is like being in The Crowded Room. It has taught me resilience. You know, Tottenham have never won anything, and supporting them is incredibly difficult, and it’s no secret that my show has been horribly reviewed. But I’m here today to promote the show, and I’m still here, so I’m very resilient. It’s good quality in a new employee.”
Tom Holland on taking a break from acting
During the promotions for The Crowded Room, Tom Holland revealed that he is taking a year’s break from acting after he finished the filming for the show, which he described as challenging, especially for his mental health.
He shared at the time, “We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure. I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was.” He is already eight months into his break.
Holland, however, emphasized that although he has always believed that hard work is good work and has enjoyed every minute of his time in The Crowded Room, he needs a break to rediscover himself, especially after disclosing that he has been sober for almost a year and a half.
The Crowded Room is streaming on Apple TV+.
