At only 27 years of age, Tom Holland has been able to leave his mark on Hollywood. He is most well-known for playing the beloved character of Spiderman in the MCU franchise. Tom Holland has played Spiderman in six MCU movies so far, starting with Captain America: Civil War (2016). His fame skyrocketed with Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. He also got his own solo movie in Spider-Man: Homecoming and became the youngest actor to play a title role in the MCU.

However, Tom Holland has not appeared in the MCU for quite a while. His last appearance was in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which saw massive success at the box office as well as among critics. Naturally, fans were curious as to what Marvel was doing with the character since there was no news of the development of another film or a release date window. In a recent press conference, Tom Holland gave a glimpse at the fourth Spider-Man movie.

Tom Holland won’t make another Spider-Man movie just for the sake of making one

It is no surprise that Tom Holland would love the role that brought him everything, from fame to critical acclaim. In the recent press conference by the Critics Choice Association, attended by Collider’s Christina Radish, Tom Holland opened up about how the role of Spider-Man was too precious to him and that he was “very protective” of the role:

“All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character. Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man.”

He also mentioned how he felt like the franchise got better with each movie, which is not untrue since every movie’s success surpassed its predecessor. He said he is looking to protect the legacy of the character and just not make a movie for the sake of it:

“I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy. So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character.”

Tom Holland boldly proclaimed his love for the franchise and the character and continued to say:

“But that said, if we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man. I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I’ll only tell it if we can find the right one”

When Culture Crave posted about it on Twitter, many fans called upon the return of Tom Holland as the iconic character, terming him the “heart and soul of the MCU.” Others also found his love and genuine care for the character admirable.

During the mid-credit scene of No Way Home, fans noticed Venom making an appearance. However, there has been no confirmation as to where the franchise might go, since there are so many iconic villains in the Spider-Man franchise already.

What did Tom Holland say about Spider-Man 4 in the past?

Earlier this year, in June, Tom Holland told The Hollywood Reporter that he sat in many meetings regarding Spider-Man 4 before the Writer’s Guild strike took place in May. He told the magazine that:

“The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why.”

However, he also said that he is “a little apprehensive about it” as well.

“There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise, and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”

All the Spider-Man movies are available to watch on Disney+.
