Tom Holland Steps Away From Acting After Critics Slam His New Show ‘The Crowded Room’

The 27-year-old has been in the spotlight for a long time. The actor had a hectic last two years as he was in leading roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Uncharted. The Devil All the Time actor also stars in the Apple TV+ miniseries The Crowded Room. Holland admitted the series broke him, and he is stepping away from acting.

Playing Spider-Man in the MCU has led Tom Holland to become a household name. His romance with Zendaya on and off screen made him famous among fans. The British actor has been part of many hit movies over the years. His latest addition is the Apple TV+ miniseries The Crowded Room.
The 27-year-old has admitted how difficult it was for him to shoot the series. He confessed that playing the lead role in the series broke him. Holland speaking to Extra TV, announced he is taking a break from acting. The Uncharted actor talked about how working on the series put an extra level of pressure on him, notably talking about “exploring certain emotions” he hadn’t dealt with before.
He said that the show had kind of “broke” him. The Cherry actor said,
“But then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where I was sort of like, ‘I need to have a break.’ I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach and lay low.”
Holland later addressing the challenges of creating the series, disclosed that he is “taking a year off” from acting. He added,
“And I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was… I am excited to see how it turns out and I feel like our hard work wasn’t in vain.”
Filming for The Crowded Room was finished in September 2022, although it’s not known exactly when Holland began his year-long vacation.

The Crowded Room is a dark psychological thriller influenced by a real-life incident that was the basis for the 1981 book The Minds of Billy Milligan. Tom Holland joined the series as the lead and executive producer. He played Danny Sullivan, who was arrested after a shooting at the Rockefeller Centre in 1979.
Danny learns more about his mental health, the people in his life, and the sad circumstances that led to the occurrence through chats with Detective Rya Goodwin. In an interview, the actor said that working on the production made him reexamine his mental health.
The first three episodes of The Crowded Room will debut on Apple TV+ on June 9, with the following seven airing weekly afterward.
