Untold Story of Abigail Thorn, First Transgender Actor in $10 Billion Star Wars Franchise
Trans actor Abigail Thorn is one celebrity that has had an impactful effect on many people beginning with her Youtube channel itself. The channel dealt with philosophy lessons at the start, for many students amid a tuition fee hike in Britain back in 2012. But since then a lot has happened in her life and career.
Now, Thorn is all set to become a part of the Star Wars franchise with the upcoming series Acolyte, which will also make her the first trans woman in the franchise in a non-minor role. Despite all these good aspects of her life, the actor did go through tough times dealing with gender identity and sexuality.
A Look at Trans Actor Abigail Thorn’s Life Story
Back in 2012, when Britain suffered a hike in tuition fees, Abigail Thorn (then known as Oliver Thorn) made it her goal to provide philosophy lessons for free. It received much love from the viewers and in 2018, she started creating more elaborate content using props and a studio. Since then her channel has reached around 1 million subscribers and has been critically praised for all the help her videos have been to many young people.

However, before coming out as transgender, she struggled with the general perception viewers had of her. According to Thorn, she was perceived as a woke 21st-century man and many male fans praised her for that, however, the Django star never felt like a man at all. Although she did voice her support for the trans community, it was only in 2021 that Thorn finally announced her gender identity as a trans woman.
Moreover, while participating in a charity stream for Samaritans which helps people deal with emotional distress, the actor opened up that she had also gone through a suicidal phase once. And the charity’s hotline saved her life before it was too late.

Starting as a Youtuber, Abigail Thorn soon got into the on-screen projects. In 2021, two announcements came up regarding her tv projects, one was Ladhood, where she played the role of a guest named Iona. And the other was A 10-episode series Django, which is currently in filming.
Following that, she also took part in a play called The Prince which included various themes such as transgender, unhealthy relationships, etc. The most recent known project is the upcoming Lucasfilm tv series, Acolyte where she plays the role of Ensign Eurus. Along with her, another non-binary cast Amanda Steinberg also makes up the very inclusive group of the cast in the Star Wars franchise.
Acolyte is slated to release next year on Disney+.
