Upsetting News For Ben Affleck Fans Before His Possible Retirement From DCU’s Batman
Hollywood actor Ben Affleck has been acting in critically acclaimed and financially successful movies for a long time now. But it was his portrayal of Batman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) that really made his reputation as an iconic superhero.
Fans initially objected to Affleck being cast to play Batman because they didn’t like the thought of a different actor filling the role following Christian Bale’s well-received performance. But with his performance in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Affleck rapidly won over both critics and fans. Since then, Affleck has reprised his version of Batman again in Suicide Squad, Justice League, and The Flash.
However, it appears that Affleck’s fans are in for some bad news before his potential retirement from DCU’s Batman.
Ben Affleck’s cameo removed?
In the DC Films universe, significant changes are taking place, particularly with regard to Ben Affleck‘s Batman appearing in Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. Reports stated that Affleck will reprise his version of Batman again in the sequel. But according to recent reports, plans for Batfleck to appear in the sequel have changed drastically.
Michael Keaton’s Batman was originally intended to make a cameo and represent someone similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to former DC Films head Walter Hamada. Keaton’s appearance was replaced with Affleck’s Batman during reshoots after the release dates for Aquaman 2 and The Flash were moved. The studio chose to remove both Batman versions after the release date for Aquaman 2 was again shifted.
James Gunn and Peter Safran, the new heads of the DC Studios, apparently wanted the movie to stand alone and avoid any references to earlier failures. One source called the situation “pretty chaotic.”
Have we already seen the last of Ben Affleck as Batman?
It appears that Ben Affleck’s portrayal of Batman is coming to an end in the DC Extended Universe. The Aquaman 2 report sheds light on what challenges the DC Universe encountered in the aftermath of the controversy surrounding The Flash during its theatrical release and the backlash it received. The movie was also a box office flop.
Affleck’s appearance in a cameo in The Flash initially suggested that he would continue to play Batman. However, none of them will appear in Aquaman 2 given that the film eliminates his version of the Caped Crusader from the DC Universe along with the fact that Michael Keaton’s Batman is dead too. The film has already gone through numerous revisions and modifications, and this removal may be another way to wrap up the previous DCEU era before James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new creative vision takes the reins.
