Long after it shared Spider-Man with Marvel Studios, Sony set sail on its stand-alone live-action universe based on characters from the web slinger’s comics, starting with Venom, starring Tom Hardy, in 2018. Following the plot of the alien symbiote crash-landing on Earth and bonding with the journalist, the saga continued following the first film’s success and is on the verge of culminating with the incoming third iteration, Venom: The Last Dance.

To hype it all up, the studio has left no holds barred in its promotion. From teasers, trailers, and even teasers for trailers, it is gearing up to make the finale a grand affair. Thus, it has also succumbed to this year’s trend of launching conversation starter popcorn buckets. Right on the cusp of its pre-booking opening up, the flick has expectedly generated a buzz.

In the movies, Venom is shown to possess an intense liking for eating heads. As such, Sony figured it would be a good idea to model the popcorn bucket for Venom: The Last Dance into precisely the symbiote’s head. A photo giving a first look at the reportedly official bucket just surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), and did not fail to get fans and viewers talking.

The design featured the character with its mouth wide open and teeth gazing through. As guessed, one would have to put their hands through the gap to grab a hold of their popcorn, similar to what Deadpool & Wolverine did with its popcorn bucket, and not long ago, Dune: Part Two opted to do the same. However, based on initial impressions, Sony’s design is pretty large compared to the other two buzz-generators.

The bucket for the third Venom movie also included a few design elements that had fans both confused and excited. As for the former, some pointed out that the stretch marks on the sides resembled ears, which the character definitely does not have in the movies. While for the latter, outlines of a Spider-Man logo in the chest sparked curiosity, which could either be intentional or just a paint job gone wrong,

Venom: The Last Dance marks the end of the road for Tom Hardy and is a wake-up call for Sony

Tom Hardy not only portrayed Eddie Brock but also lent the voice of Venom for the entire trilogy. However, Venom: The Last Dance will be his last appearance within the Sony universe unless there are plans yet to be disclosed. Additionally, there are also rumors of the character making a leap to the MCU for good, aside from a small cameo in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Regardless, the final movie of the threequel packs a bunch of surprises. The latest trailer confirmed the appearance of Knull, the creator of all symbiotes. However, there currently lie conflicting reports of who exactly is the star behind the villain, with Norman Reedus and Rhys Ifans both being speculated. Tasers have pretty much confirmed that several symbiotes will come crashing down in a mega-showdown which may also involve a sacrifice.

For Sony, Venom: The Last Dance holds immense importance. Several of its recent live-action films of the Spider-Man universe have gone down disastrously, with the Dakota Johnson starrer Madame Web being the latest. Thus, there is an urgency for the Tom Hardy flick to perform well, which may prove to be tough, as its release month will also see it clash against DC’s Joker: Folie à Deux.

Venom: The Last Dance arrives in theaters on October 25, 2024.
