Some might say Meghan Markle is most well-known for her role as Rachel Zane in Suits, while some might say her role as the royal daughter-in-law has been the most challenging one. Suits had a fandom swooning over witty quips between the lawyers of Pearson Hardman and Markle had quite a screen presence as Rachel Zane who shared steamy chemistry with her onscreen partner, Mike Ross played by Patrick J. Adams.

Markle made her exit from the show with a wedding with Adams on-screen, only to get married to Prince Harry in real life. And a new chapter of her life ensued.

Apparently, the Duchess of Sussex transitioned into her new role so well that memories of her acting days have slowly waned from the audience’s minds as well.

The estranged Royal recently gave an interview to Variety where she talked about the process of mourning the late Queen and answered questions about a potential return to Hollywood. She even talked about her work in Suits and how different it was from the media consumption in the contemporary scenario. She said,

“I left ‘Suits’ right after the 100th episode, in 2018. I didn’t think I’d ever be in the entertainment industry again. But the entire culture has changed; streamers have changed things. The ability to create zeitgeist moments like we had in the ’90s — where everyone would tune in at the same time for a show or gather for one moment? — that doesn’t happen anymore. When I was doing ‘Suits,’ that character, Rachel Zane, was in your living room with you while you were in your pajamas eating Chinese takeout. That’s how connected the experience felt then. But to create a cultural moment or conversation requires something different today.” 

Suits went on for a good two seasons after Markle’s departure before wrapping up with its 9th season in 2019.

The 41-year-old was then asked about the toxic side of Hollywood and how affected she felt by it during her time. To this Meghan Markle answered alluding to movements like #MeToo and #OscarsSoWhite,

“We didn’t have a name for it at that time. There were just certain things that were accepted. If there was any discomfort, you just dealt with it. It forced a lot of women to live with this idea of staying silent, not being disruptive, not giving voice to the things that might create concern or discomfort.

For me, I had tried for so long to land on a show, filming all these pilots, wondering if they would get picked up. All of Season 1 on “Suits,” I was convinced I was going to get recast. All the time. It got to a point where the creator was like, “Why are you so worried about this?”

The mum of 2 further claimed that she has no intention at all to resume her acting career. She has bid adieu to that part of her life in earnest, although she did say “never say never”, but that does not imply anything in particular.

People on Twitter had a field day teasing Markle at her statement of never returning to acting. Several fans brought up her ‘gig’ as the Duchess of Sussex.

While there were many who questioned her having an acting career ever, if at all.

Some fans believe that it is only a matter of time until Markle makes a comeback as well.

This seems to be one quip, the Suits alum fails to retort against. Only time will tell if Markle would choose to return to Hollywood, and the kind of project she might pick up will also be a looming question.
