And the two-time Oscar winner is no different in real life and has a knack for making sharp comments that leave the person on the other side often dumbfounded.

Denzel Washington Once Silenced Late Chadwick Boseman

Late Chadwick Boseman became a household name after playing the incredible role of the Black Panther, the protector of Wakanda, in Black Panther (2018). The Marvel Universe movie earned over $1.3 billion worldwide, becoming the third-highest-grossing film stateside in 2018.

While Boseman was absolutely brilliant in donning the role of the first black superhero in the mainstream comic world, he wasn’t very great at paying attention to his financial commitments – if we go by Denzel Washington‘s comments. Though for this, we’ll have to turn the clock back a wee bit.

In 2018, The Little Things star appeared on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and recalled a savage interaction with Boseman at a New York screening.

He said: “I saw Ryan Coogler and Chad, and he said, ‘Oh, you know, I just wanted to thank you for paying,’ and I said, yeah, that’s why I’m here. I’m not here to see — I liked the movie, ‘Black Panther,’ yeah, good, Wakanda Forever, but where’s my money?'”

The Black Panther star later admitted he owed Washington big time, as he took drama lessons through a program at Balliol College at Oxford University, and Washington was one of the scholarships’ benefactors.

Boseman tragically lost a private battle with colon cancer in August 2020. But he’s still cherished for inspiring millions of kids by becoming the first actor to play Black Hero in a stand-alone MCU movie.

And Washington, who has himself paved the way for several black actors to make Hollywood their home through his iconic and inspiring roles, can certainly feel proud for helping Boseman in his incredible journey during his time as a student at Howard University.

After Howard and Wakanda, Boseman will leave his mark on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It’s been confirmed that the late actor will be honored with his own star in 2024.
