Samuel L. Jackson Did Not Take Notes From David Hasselhoff
Before Samuel L. Jackson joined the MCU as Nick Fury, David Hasselhoff played the character in the 1998 TV movie. However, fans did not enjoy him in the role in Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Jackson himself was also among them, as he shared that did not like Hasselhoff’s performance in the film.
During his interview with Entertainment Weekly, he also shared that he made sure not to take any notes from the 1998 film. And he knew exactly what he needed to avoid after watching Hasselhoff’s Nick Fury in the TV film.
He said, “I watched David Hasselhoff…and decided I wasn’t going to do any of that.” And seems like the trick worked for him, as fans love seeing him as Nick Fury. The Knight Rider star also admitted that Jackson was the perfect choice to portray the character.
He said it would be cool seeing him as Nick Fury as “he’s got an attitude.” However, the Coach Carter star wasn’t sure if he would get the role, as Nick Fury was originally white in Marvel comics.
Samuel L. Jackson Was Unsure He Would Get Nick Fury’s Part
Nick Fury was first introduced in Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos #1. The character was initially white and was changed in 2002 by Mark Millar and artist Bryan Hitch in The Ultimates #1. The writer and the artist took Samuel L. Jackson as an inspiration for the character. And Jackson was surprised to see his resemblance with the character.
After inquiring about it, he found out that Marvel was planning movies based on its stories, and he could be up for playing Nick Fury. Although he wanted to portray the character on screen, he was not sure if the studio would follow up with Mark Millar’s idea of the character. He shared that he would be looking forward if the studio continues to keep Nick Fury black in the movies as well.
