As the SnyderVerse continues to unfold, the spotlight has turned toward James Gunn‘s reboot, a bold step that promises to reshape the superhero landscape. Amidst the discussions and speculations, Charles Roven, a key player in bringing these larger-than-life characters to the screen, has shared his own insights on Gunn’s creative direction. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter the producer was asked a question: You worked with James Gunn and Peter Safran on The Suicide Squad before they became the new heads of DC. How involved do you expect to be with their new regime? and Roven said:
Right now, they’re really rebooting everything, and it’s a little bit unclear to me exactly how finite their desire is to use or not use any DCEU actors in the same roles. So I’m not really sure, but at the moment, we’re not really having any discussions. James and I are good friends. My wife and I are very good friends with him and his wife, Jenn [Holland]. And so we see each other socially, but we’re not currently talking about any business. But that could change.”
Now there’s another important thing to know Gunn is making a new set of superhero movies for DC Comics which will officially start in the year 2025. But we’re wondering if the characters James Gunn has made in the movies like Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, will be there in his next projects or not. Fans will be elated to watch these characters in Gunn’s new films and projects.
James Gunn’s Involvement in the New DCU
It’s been quite a long time since James Gunn has been actively working on the new DCU, after being named co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran and now, with his ties to the Disney franchise firmly in the past, James Gunn is wholeheartedly focusing on the upcoming Warner Bros. Discovery projects that feature comic book characters. It’s a bit like what Kevin Feige does at Marvel Studios, although not exactly the same as some might think.
In the expansive lineup of movies and TV series meticulously crafted by Gunn and Safran for the inaugural phase of the fresh DCU, dubbed Gods & Monsters, several projects are making strides. Notably, an animated adaptation of Creature Commandos has taken a significant step forward, finalizing its cast. This ensemble, featuring Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, Maria Bakalova as Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbor as Eric Frankenstein, and Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot, holds the reins of the show, with potential crossover into live-action productions.
