“We shot a lot of footage for them”: ’Heartstopper’ Star Kit Connor’s Stunning Confession About the Season 3 S*x Scenes Will Make Fans Revolt Against the Show
- Heartstopper will probably never release hours of footage that was shot for Season 3, says Kit Connor
- The show has faced criticism for its restrained depiction of intense romantic themes, which is expected to change in Season 3.
- Kit Connor and Joe Locke have hinted at increased intimacy between their characters in the upcoming season, reflecting the show’s progressive approach.
A cultural movement of its own, the Kit Connor and Joe Locke starrer Heartstopper is one of Netflix’s prized assets. Airing its first season in 2022, the queer coming-of-age drama has witnessed solid popularity, particularly among teens and tweens. Based on Alice Oseman’s novels of the same name, the show is now on the cusp of dropping its third season.
However, the show has yet to amp things up regarding intimacy between the two leads as well as their supporting characters, something that other teen-aimed Netflix productions like Never Have I Ever have managed to do. Yet, a recent admission from one of the stars may infuriate ardent fans of the show, considering their long-standing demands.
Heartstopper Season 3 will likely never air hours of shot footage
A major debate that gripped the Heartstopper novels was its holding back on depictions of s*x. Similar complaints got carried over to the show as well, with its two seasons mostly keeping a distant and often implied portrayal of intense romantic themes.
Yet, it was all expected to change with the third season, with both Joe Locke’s Charlie Spring and Kit Connor’s Nick Nelson almost turning or crossing eighteen years of age and taking mature leaps.
Fortunately, the show also recognized this fact and shot about seven hours’ worth of s*x scenes, revealed Connor to The Times. However, the bad news is that not much of it would make its way to viewers.
Season one, he would be there making sure that we were comfortable holding hands. And now we’re doing the s*x scenes. We shot a lot of footage for them. Not much actually ended up in the show. But we shot the s*x scenes for about seven hours!
The actor also recognized that they have taken “baby steps” so far in the two seasons when it has come to matters of intimacy. Yet, the show’s major strength is its progressive approach and growing plot maturity with each season. Thus, despite behind-the-scenes content being present, Netflix is likely to hold back from airing a major chunk of it, probably because of Heartsopper’s TV-14 rating.
Kit Connor drops hints for season three
Turning pretty vocal about what is in store for the third season of Heartstopper, Kit Connor and Joe Locke both hinted at the dialed-up intimacy between their characters. Appearing on Heartstopper: The Official Podcast, the duo uttered “s*x” as a brief overview of their show’s next iteration followed by Connor’s statement “I mean, it’s great s*x. really, really good. immediately, they just become pros. […] that just felt right for the characters.”
On another note, in the same The Times interview, the Nick Nelson star stated,
We kind of provide a bit of a guideline for parents, especially in season three, with some of the topics that we discuss.
The reference possibly alluded to the show’s widely acclaimed handling of tense themes of mental health and teenage self-acceptance. Additionally, several reviews of Heartstopper mention its realistic portrayal of real-life scenarios faced by queer teens and the new generation’s grappling with self-identity, justifying its 98% critical approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
Heartstopper Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.
