“We wouldn’t have got to this point”: Prince Harry Claims His Mother Diana Would Have Prevented Royal Family From Crumbling, Deflects Blame From Meghan Markle
Prince Harry’s memoir Spare was officially released on January 10, 2023. On Tuesday, the Duke of Sussex appeared on the CBS late-night show, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, to promote his memoir. The Duke of Sussex made his first appearance on the show and second appearance on a late-night talk show, having previously appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Prince Harry made more detailed bombshell revelations in his book after the startling revelations in his and Meghan Markle’s Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan.
During the show, the Duke of Sussex discussed many details with the show host, Stephen Colbert; but he emphasized the importance of his mother, Princess Diana, to him, Meghan Markle, and the British Royal family.
Harry Claims Princess Diana Could Have Kept The Royal Family Together
While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on January 10 to promote his memoir Spare, Prince Harry, 38, expressed his emotions about his mother, Princess Diana, to the show host Stephen Colbert. Again, the Duke of Sussex spoke openly about his relationship with his brother, Prince William. During the show, when he was asked about his mother, the Duke discussed how things could have been different if their mother, Princess Diana, had not passed away at such a young age.
The show host Stephen Colbert asked,
“If your mother were still alive, do you ever think about how she might handle this moment?”
The Duke of Sussex replied,
“We wouldn’t have got to this moment. It’s impossible to say where we would be now — where those relationships would be now — but there is no way that the distance between my brother and I would be the same.”
Colbert asked if he asked his mother for help or considered her advice; Prince Harry replied,
“I’ve said quite a lot recently in different interviews that I’ve really felt the presence of my mom, especially in the last couple of years. And I detail in the book my brother and I talking at her grave and how he felt as though she had been with him for a long period of time and helped set him up with life and that he felt she was now moving over to me.”
The Duke added,
“And I have felt her more in the last two years than I have in the last 30.”
While discussing his deteriorating relationship with his brother after their mother passed away, the Duke of Sussex also expressed his hope that if Princess Diana were still alive, his wife Meghan Markle might not face the turmoil in the palace and might have the great back support. Unfortunately, on Aug. 31, 1997, Princess Diana died in a Paris car accident.
Prince Harry Lightens Up The Talk Show’s Vibes With The Show Host Stephen Colbert
The show host Stephen Colbert mocked Prince Harry and his memoirs ahead of the US TV interview. In his jokes, Colbert compared the Duke’s life to ‘Harry Potter‘ and joked that a royal commemorative plate might be available to the public.
When The Late Show swept the Duke of Sussex into the studio yesterday by armed bodyguards, there were gales of laughter as he was introduced as ‘His Royal Harryness‘ and seen downing tequila shots as he was seen getting served the shots with salt and lime during the interview.
Colbert said,
“I’ve read the book — it’s very enjoyable, quite emotional, quite revealing. I’m going to have so much to talk about with His Harryness.”
In his memoir Spare, he shared intimate details about his life, including losing his v**ginity, using drugs, killing 25 Taliban insurgents, and the deepening rift with his family.
