“Well that was underwhelming”: Modern Family Cast Reunites in Brand New Video But Sofia Vergara is Nowhere to be Seen
The popular ABC sitcom Modern Family, which ruled the screens of millions of households for eleven years, came to the end of its run with a heartwarming finale in 2020. However, fans still seem to be having trouble letting go of their favorite sitcom characters and are hoping for a spin-off or a reboot.
While there is no official information on either of those, the castmates have reunited often for appearances at different events. Recently, some of them came together for a new video which is a WhatsApp commercial, but one of the key cast members Sofia Vergara was glaringly absent from the video.
With Sofia Vergara Nowhere in Sight, Modern Family Cast Has a Reunion of Sorts for New WhatsApp Commercial
Modern Family is a sitcom that follows three diverse families, interrelated through the character Jay Pritchett, in Los Angeles as they navigate their lives with their respective partners, children, and jobs. The show, featuring an ensemble cast, is in mockumentary style and the characters often speak directly to the camera.
Recently, the castmates Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Phil Dunphy, Claire Dunphy, Cam Tucker, and Mitchell Pritchett, respectively on the show came together to star in a WhatsApp commercial. Evidently, a lot of other members of the cast, including Sofia Vergara, who played the role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett, were absent.
Set in the Dunphy house, the commercial begins with Cam, Claire, and Phil reacting to a picture Hayley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) has sent in the group chat. When Mitchell enters the room and demands to see the photo, Phil tells him to check the group chat as Claire and Cam go silent and Phil realizes his mistake. Mitchell gets offended and Cam tries to calm him down by saying it has nothing to do with him, it is just his phone. Claire clarifies, “Blurry photos, weird likes.”
A painter, who has seemingly overheard this conversation, jumps in to save the day by suggesting to use WhatsApp, a “seamless and private” messaging service. The next scene happens in the Tucker-Pritchett residence where Cam assures Mitchell that he will always have a place in their hearts.
Fans Are Not Too Happy with This Modern Family Reunion
In November 2023, Sofia Vergara posted a carousel of pictures on Instagram featuring the cast of the show, sadly excluding Ty Burrell, who had come together for a reunion hosted by the Griselda actress. Last month, Jesse Tyler Ferguson posted a picture from the show’s set, specifically the Dunphy house on his Instagram story sending fans into a meltdown (via PEOPLE).
Despite all the excitement regarding having the actors in the same room again, fans did not seem too thrilled with the reunion in the commercial. Here is what some of them said:
Some fans are also quite happy with this commercial as they still got a chance to see some cast members in the same frame and on a set from the show. That said, hopefully, the creators are working on a reboot or spin-off of the show.
