“We’re just a bunch of hay seeds”: George Lucas Has 1 Constant Theme in Star Wars He Continues to Represent
Star Wars is undoubtedly one of the most well-known media franchises in the world. Since its inception, it has expanded into various films, TV series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions and more. The all-encompassing fictional universe is also one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
Interestingly, the maker of Star Wars, George Lucas once opened up about his inspiration for what went on to become a massively successful franchise.
George Lucas details his inspiration for Star Wars
Back in 2018. George Lucas sat down for an interview with AMC. During the interview, Lucas spoke about how Star Wars has one constant theme of “little guys” winning against the big empires.
A clip from the interview has recently resurfaced on social media where George Lucas who directed the first three movies of the franchise revealed that he took inspiration from the Vietnamese war, Lucas said:
“We’re fighting the largest empire in the world, and we’re just a bunch of hay seeds in coonskin hats that don’t know nothing…The irony is that, in both of those, the little guys won. The highly technical empire, the English Empire, the American Empire, lost. That was the whole point.”

Is Taika Waititi working on a new Star Wars movie?
Over the years a number of directors have tried their hands at directing a Star Wars movie. As of now, Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi has been working on a project in this franchise.
However, there were many speculations surrounding the cancellation of the project but it looks like all of them were false. As revealed by journalist and Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider recently, on his podcast The Hot Mic, the rumors of Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie getting canceled are false. He said:
“It’s not dead. Taika [Waititi] has turned in multiple drafts at this point and other writers as well have touched it. Taika owes them [Lucasfilm] another draft after the [WGA] strike is over.”
While many fans are excited to see the director work on the Star Wars franchise, many have also expressed their desire to see Taika Waititi away from the franchise thanks to the response to his last two Thor movies. That said, it will be interesting to see how the movie performs if and when it gets out.
