After months of speculation and anticipation, it seems like Taika Waititi‘s Star Wars movie is dead. In a recent Award Show appearance, Waititi slipped in a humorous yet displeasing tidbit about his upcoming Star Wars movie as the filmmaker recently appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival honoring Shawn Levy who has also been developing a Star Wars movie of his own. The Thor: Love and Thunder director wittily managed to talk about the Deadpool 3 director implying that Shaw Levy might end up with the complete script for his Star Wars movie, unlike Waititi.

However, Waititi’s comments hold a portion of seriousness and shouldn’t be taken completely as a joke. Taika Waititi’s words hinted that the movie is still in the works and developing progress. Before the WGA and SAF-AFTRA strikes began, Waititi told The Hollywood Reporter that there are challenges that affect the story, especially in a well-established franchise like Star Wars. Taika Waititi wants to develop a project that’s never been made before and can stun Star Wars fans.
