What Did Star Wars Actor David Choe Say That Led to His Cancelation on Internet?
The multiskilled American artist David Choe is renowned for his varied ventures as an artist, podcast host, actor, musician, and entrepreneur. Choe has always been at the peak of his career following his multifaceted gigs, although he rose to prominence after starring in the 2023 Netflix drama-comedy series, Beef.
Recently, the actor has been making headlines for his alleged dark past. The actor once claimed that he was involved in non-consensual intercourse with a masseuse. His old clip from his podcast, DVDASA, resurfaced on the internet and infuriated the people. However, the actor apologized for his statement and claimed that it was all fabricated.
Why was David Choe being criticized?
David Choe is facing severe backlash on the internet following a resurfaced podcast clip in which he stated that he had a forceful s*xual encounter with a massage therapist. Choe’s statement comes from a 2014 podcast, DVDASA called Er*ction Quest. In the podcast, the artist shared his experience in which he forced a masseuse into a s*xual activity. Choe said in the podcast,
“It’s dangerous and it’s super self-destructive. I’m at a place and there’s potential for a lawsuit… and she has given me no signs that she’s into me or that this is appropriate behavior. So I go back to the chill method of you never ask first, you just do it, get in trouble and then pay the price later.”
Choe’s audacious statement infuriated internet users, and they called him out for his vile comment. What sparked this outrage was Choe’s taking pride in his wrongdoing. The video that resurfaced online shows Asa Akira, the co-host of the podcast, calling Choe a r*pist. To this comment, he proudly reacted by calling himself a successful r*pist.
“Beef deserves better than…” Are we having parasocial relationships with television now? The production hired David Choe knowing his history. Nobody is innocent in this.
Beef deserves *exactly* what it’s getting. https://t.co/1yJM09tfs8

Following his nasty comment and sick mentality, people on social media suggested condemning Netfilx’s hit dark comedy Beef. Not just this, but Choe’s actions also led to a backlash against Netflix, as some users suggested that Netflix cast Choe even after knowing about his nasty past.
David Choe’s statement on his sickening action
Since David Choe is facing backlash for his past deeds, he claims it to be a made-up incident that never occurred. In 2017, Choe took to Instagram and apologized for his statements while denying all the actions. He said,
“In a 2014 episode of DVDASA, I relayed a story simply for shock value that made it seem as if I had s*xually violated a woman. Though I said those words, I did not commit those actions. It did not happen. I am deeply sorry for any hurt I’ve brought to anyone through my past words. Non-consensual s*x is r*pe, and it is never funny or appropriate to joke about.”
Choe is being criticized for his past actions, which are now affecting his present and future. In 2021, during an interview with The New York Times, the 46-year-old actor said that while growing up, he saw utter poverty and was also s*xually abused. Since he was canceled because of his statement, he has found it very difficult to rebuild his image in the industry. He told NYT,
“I don’t know if I’ve said anything to you right now that I’m going to get canceled for, so I just assume any time I do anything, the haters come out. If you want to come and try to cancel me, that’s OK… I don’t live in fear.”
David Choe’s recent series was well acclaimed by the audience, but since his previous clip has been making headlines, it may result in the downfall of his career.
