One such comparison is that of NFL icon Troy Aikman and rap icon Jay-Z. It might not be that apparent at first glance, but once they are compared side-by-side, it is hard to unsee the difference. These two stars of their respective fields have more in common than one would think, at least in the looks department.

Troy Aikman, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, has had quite a journey. He started playing football in California, and in his 12-year NFL career, he took the Cowboys to three Super Bowl wins and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

However, he is not known just for his football skills. Back in January 2017, NFL fans observed something strange in one of the game broadcasts. They took a screenshot of Aikman’s reporting and placed it beside a picture of Jay-Z. The result? A meme that would end up viral in the future.

Aikman himself seems to have some opinion about such an unexpected comparison. In an episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out, the NFL legend has finally responded to the meme. When he was asked whether he was aware of him being the lookalike of Jay-Z, he responded with a “yes.” He said,

Yes. I am aware of that..White JAY-Z. There was a meme, it still pops up on my feed from time to time. I don’t know if that was actually an unedited picture of me, but, pretty scary.

It is obvious that one could not be more different than the other. Aikman is from southern California, and Jay-Z is from Brooklyn. Still, the similarities are hard to ignore. This is where the internet truly shines in finding relationships where none would seem to exist.

Aikman might have rolled with the Jay-Z comparisons, but recently he stepped into a controversy regarding a different celebrity. In a Monday Night Football broadcast, Aikman said something about pop sensation Taylor Swift that didn’t go over well with her fans.

According to New York Post, when cameras followed Swift celebrating in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium, Aikman commented on a particular play by Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. “The Mrs. likes it,” Aikman said, seemingly implying that Swift and Kelce were married.

Joe Buck, his broadcasting partner, quickly jumped to handle the situation. “You know they’re not married?” Buck responded. Aikman acknowledged his mistake, saying, “Oh I know. I’m sure I’m in trouble for saying that.”

Swifties did not stay behind to seize the opportunity and hit the social networking sites, criticizing Aikman for calling Swift “The Mrs.” Some complained that Swift has her own identity and no one should address her as Kelce’s Mrs. even if she gets married.

This shows the constant pressure one faces when commenting on such high-profile relationships. According to Athlon Sports, Buck recalled his daughters always discouraging him from making jokes about Swift while watching the Chiefs games.

Aikman’s error shows how damaging words can be, especially when dealing with celebs of high caliber and hardcore fanbases like Taylor Swift. However, as of now, Swift and Kelce are not engaged.
