The 88-year-old Hollywood star, Judi Dench is among the most praised and beloved stars in Hollywood for decades.
She took her first step in the world of acting by playing in theatre, and television and the year 1957 was the turning point for her when she got a chance for a professional appearance for the first time. Fast forward to 2023, she shines as a true star who is more popularly known for her role in James Bond movies.
The star’s fate took a twist in 2012 after she got diagnosed with Muscular Degeneration. Although the star went through treatment for years and as years passed by her eyesight got deteriorated furthermore. In 2022 she confessed her health issue to the public.
Judi Dench Loses Ability to Watch Films as Eye Condition Worsens
Judi Dench has recently opened up about the worsening condition of her eyesight which is not only causing a hurdle to work but infact it is also making her difficult to live without anyone’s support.
Daniel Craig‘s James Bond and Belfast‘s star has been diagnosed with Muscular Degeneration problems around 9 years and slowly her eye’s health started to worsen in 2021.
Last year, she publicly confessed that her current condition worsened furthermore which has resulted in losing the ability to read and write.
During an interview with Skyfall Star and Mirror, she shared that her present condition has been worsening and affecting her work too. She said,
“I mean, I can’t see on a film set anymore,” the 88-year-old actress told the British outlet. “And I can’t see to read, so I can’t see much. But you know, you just deal with it. Get on.
“It’s difficult for me if I have any length of a part. I haven’t yet found a way because I have so many friends who will teach me the script. But I have a photographic memory.”
Dench has taken it as a challenge to face her issue. Thanks to her friends who helped her to read scripts and also her amazing photographic memory which has helped her to work for movies without being much dependent to others.
Judi Dench Opens Up: Feeling Terrible About Dependence
Dench is among the chosen self-made actress in the industry. She has been known for her best acting skills which she honed herself while working on more than 50 movies in her career.
Being a self-made actress, she hates to be dependent on others due to her current health condition. The star shared,
“Ghastly. It’s terrible to depend so much on people, You find a way to move and get through things that are difficult for you,” she notes.
“I have to find another way to learn dialogue and things, which is to have great friends repeat lines to me over and over and over and over and over and over again. So I have to learn through repetition and hopefully people won’t notice too much if the phrases are completely useless!” she concluded, on how she has had to adapt to perform in the best possible way.
As she previously revealed that she has friends who help her in reading scripts for movies which is helping temporarily. She shares that she is thankful to her friends but she feels terible to always stay dependent to someone while working on her sets.
Judi Dench’s Future in Hollywood: Will She Continue to Star?
The 88-year-old Red Joan star has made it clear that she will not be retiring anytime soon and she will be continuing to work and figure out how to work with such a condition.
