In a Vanity Fair interview, Jackson opened up about his character’s arc in the series, sharing,
“Even Nick Fury can be shaken, you know? He’s up there trying to process what the f*ck happened, you know? And what his place in the world is.The death of Iron Man, the death of Black Widow, with that stuff going on he just kind of checked out.”

The upcoming Secret Invasion series featuring Fury may deliver on the promise of exploring the darker side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, inspired by ’70s conspiracy thrillers like The Conversation and Three Days of the Condor. It will follow Fury’s character after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where he is still coming to terms with the fallout of the movie.
He mentioned that the eyepatch was a, “part of who the strong Nick Fury was” and the absence of it, “part of his vulnerability now”
Fury’s fragile mental state is also apparent in his looks, as he is portrayed without his distinctive eyepatch. Jackson continued,
“He just doesn’t wear the patch. The patch is part of who the strong Nick Fury was. It’s part of his vulnerability now. You can look at it and see he’s not this perfectly indestructible person. He doesn’t feel like that guy.”
The upcoming release of Secret Invasion on Disney+ on June 21, 2023, has the potential to become a highly engaging addition to the MCU similar to Endgame. Only time will tell how everything plays out.
