‘What the hell are you buying for $70,000!’: Shaquille O’Neal Reveals He Had The Biggest Purchase In Walmart History, American Express Was So Confused They Reported His Credit Card As Stolen
Shaquille O’Neal has done a lot of notable things in his illustrious career. He was a basketball player to be reckoned with. He also had the good fortune to act in HBO’s Game of Thrones. He is also probably one of the most popular Flat Earthers out there (not exactly sure that’s an achievement to boast about). Nonetheless, this is definitely a lot to brag about in one lifetime. But the flex doesn’t end there. The 50-year-old also holds the record for the “biggest purchase” in Walmart History.
Shaquille O’Neal once made the biggest purchase in Walmart
While on the set of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Shaq was reminded by the host how he once had his credit card declined. AT WALMART!!! Shaquille O’Neal was quick to clarify the statement. His credit card got declined only because it was the “biggest purchase” in Walmart history. And the amount? A shocking $70,000.
He said, “I had the biggest purchase in Walmart History. 70,000″
James Corden’s and Victoria Beckham‘s faces said it all. They nonetheless followed that up with some obvious queries. Beckham said, “Really? What did you want.” While Corden was more obsessed with what he was buying for $70,000 in Walmart.
Not the type to wait
Shaq shared why he decided to go all out in Walmart that day. Recalling what happened, O’Neal said, “So I got traded from Miami to Phoenix. And I’m the type of guy who has no patience. So when I get to Phoenix, they have an apartment for me. But nothing’s in it.”
And the time was 2 or 3 in the morning. Any other star would have changed rooms for the night or waited for some time for daybreak. But not Shaq. Maybe he was just willing to find out how true the saying, “Nothing good happens after 2 AM.”

Shaquille O’Neal’s credit card got declined
O’Neal had to buy a lot of stuff, TVs, printers, laptops, and other things “you can’t live without“. And what better shop for a one-stop destination than Walmart? He said, “So two or three in the morning, I gotta go to buy four or five TVs, I got to get printers, I got to get laptops, I got to get appliances, sheets, towels, underwear, t-shirts.”
Some shopping spree Shaq! But the shopping spree was cut short because of something shocking. His credit card was declined.
He added, “So at the end, it was 70000. I put my credit card in. It got declined. So I pulled it out and put it back in. It got declined again. So now I know I’m not broke. So I said I’ll be back.”
He must have been wondering what went wrong then when he received a call from American Express security. Neal said, “They called me and said ‘Hey Man, Someone stole your credit card and it’s been 70000 at Walmart.’ I said, no, that was me.”
Even the person on call lost it on hearing the bill. He asked, “What the hell, are you buying?”
The video must have given Neal a throwback of the great time he had as a player. Even if he had retired in 2011, the games he played will always be remembered by us.
