It doesn’t surprise anyone that everyone is a fan of superheroes, their comics, and their big-budget fictional movies. But in 2019, Jennifer Aniston took an issue with Marvel Studios for making green-screen movies and claimed that the film industry is “diminishing” as a result.

Friends star said there are not enough good roles in the industry and the rise in superhero films caused more traditional Hollywood film roles to vanish. In an interview with Variety, Jennifer Aniston said she was “not interested in living on a green screen” and added she would, “so love to have the era of Meg Ryan come back.”

Marvel Movies Hollywood’s ‘Big Fish’: A Nostalgic Jennifer Aniston

During an interview with Variety in 2019, Jennifer Aniston, 53, discusses her transition to television from the film – and how she misses a world without Marvel movies. She revealed that the current state of cinema partly inspired her to return to TV in the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. There’s a bit of nostalgia going on for Aniston.

Aniston told Variety, 

“It wasn’t until the last couple of years when these streaming services were just sort of exploding with this amount of quality that I actually started to think, wow, that’s better than what I just did.”

“You’re seeing what’s available out there, and it’s just diminishing and diminishing in terms of, it’s a big Marvel movies.” Also, she added, “Or things that I’m not just asked to do or really that interested in living in a green screen.”

The Friends star added that the movie business has “changed so much.” But, she said, “I think we would so love to have the era of Meg Ryan come back.” 

“I just think it would be nice to go into a movie theatre, sit cozy. I think we should have a resurgence. Let’s get the ‘Terms of Endearment’ back out there. You know, ‘Heaven Can Wait,’ ‘Young Frankenstein,’ ‘Blazing Saddles,’ ‘Goodbye Girl.'”

The actress commented after being asked why she decided to return to TV with her new series back in 2019, The Morning Show, co-starring Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell.

Interestingly, the actress’ comments came soon after celebrated filmmaker Martin Scorsese claimed that Marvel movies are not cinematic and thus couldn’t be watched by him.
