‘What’s available out there… It’s just diminishing, big Marvel movies’: Friends Star Jennifer Aniston Returned To TV To Save Hollywood With ‘Resurgence’ From Superhero Flicks
It doesn’t surprise anyone that everyone is a fan of superheroes, their comics, and their big-budget fictional movies. But in 2019, Jennifer Aniston took an issue with Marvel Studios for making green-screen movies and claimed that the film industry is “diminishing” as a result.
Friends star said there are not enough good roles in the industry and the rise in superhero films caused more traditional Hollywood film roles to vanish. In an interview with Variety, Jennifer Aniston said she was “not interested in living on a green screen” and added she would, “so love to have the era of Meg Ryan come back.”
We’ll look at what more the actress had to say about Marvel Studios and the superhero movies.
Marvel Movies Hollywood’s ‘Big Fish’: A Nostalgic Jennifer Aniston
During an interview with Variety in 2019, Jennifer Aniston, 53, discusses her transition to television from the film – and how she misses a world without Marvel movies. She revealed that the current state of cinema partly inspired her to return to TV in the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. There’s a bit of nostalgia going on for Aniston.
Aniston told Variety,
“It wasn’t until the last couple of years when these streaming services were just sort of exploding with this amount of quality that I actually started to think, wow, that’s better than what I just did.”
“You’re seeing what’s available out there, and it’s just diminishing and diminishing in terms of, it’s a big Marvel movies.” Also, she added, “Or things that I’m not just asked to do or really that interested in living in a green screen.”
The Friends star added that the movie business has “changed so much.” But, she said, “I think we would so love to have the era of Meg Ryan come back.”
“I just think it would be nice to go into a movie theatre, sit cozy. I think we should have a resurgence. Let’s get the ‘Terms of Endearment’ back out there. You know, ‘Heaven Can Wait,’ ‘Young Frankenstein,’ ‘Blazing Saddles,’ ‘Goodbye Girl.'”
The actress commented after being asked why she decided to return to TV with her new series back in 2019, The Morning Show, co-starring Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell.
Interestingly, the actress’ comments came soon after celebrated filmmaker Martin Scorsese claimed that Marvel movies are not cinematic and thus couldn’t be watched by him.
How Fans Reacted To Jennifer Aniston’s Marvel Movies Statement?
Rachel Green, aka Jennifer Aniston, made a statement in 2019 that caused her to face criticism. She said Marvel Cinematic movies ruined the movie-going experience and called it a ‘diminishing‘ industry.

You know what the worst part of Marvel movies is? That they prevent any other movie from squeezing in to the theaters near people like me. The entire multiplex is devoted to them, while only a screen or 2 shows something else. https://t.co/go9ZFmhKS9

Critics cast Aniston as a villain on Twitter even though she was not interested in acting in a Marvel movie.
What’s New With Jennifer Aniston
As is well known, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s legal battle is going on, alleging Pitt physically abused his children and ex-wife Angelina Jolie. As per the report, Jennifer Aniston still grudges against Angelina Jolie as she suspects Jolie was responsible for stealing her husband from her. In 2004, Pitt and Jolie began dating while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith while the former was still married to Aniston.
When Aniston was recording the final Friends series in the hope of enjoying a quieter life with her husband, Pitt, he was away working on Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a turning point in their relationship. Despite having avoided meeting the former wife of Brad Pitt for a long time, the actress still harbors grudges against her.
Currently, she is doing The Morning Show, starring Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell since 2019, and has appeared in a special reunion documentary, Friends: The Reunion, in 2021.
