Florence Welch on Her Experience of Working with Taylor Swift and the Surprising Aftermath
Taylor Swift is one of the most popular musicians in the world with a very passionate fanbase worldwide. While the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter hits the headlines every now and then for one thing or another, most of the recent buzz around her has been due to the release of her eleventh studio album The Tortured Poets Department.
The new album was released as a double album with the second album bearing the subtitle The Anthology and featuring 15 more songs (31 songs in total). Swift often collaborates with other artists on her albums and on her new album she worked with Post Malone on the first track Fortnight and with Florence + The Machine on the eighth track Florida!!!
Speaking to British Vogue in an interview, Florence Welch opened up about how she was not quite ready for the internet discourse that would begin on the internet once the song was released.
“I almost didn’t think of the scale of it. There’s the sort of bigness of [Taylor Swift the phenomenon], and then there’s the Taylor I spend time with in the studio, who is just the sweetest and most down to earth. […] We had such a fun time. And then when it came out I was like, ‘Oh, sh*t!”
Welch also said that Swift reached out to her with “a concept and a story” for the song, and this happens to be the Dog Days Are Over singer’s favorite way of songwriting so this is completely on board.
Taylor Swift Opened Up About the Inspiration Behind Florida!!!
Although the Snow on the Beach singer chooses not to explicitly make revelations about her music, she often gives listeners an insight into her thought process. She broke Florida!!! down with Welch in a track-by-trach experience of some of the songs on The Tortured Poets Department. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swift said:
“I think I was coming up with this idea of what happens when your life doesn’t fit or the choices you’ve made catch up to you and you’re surrounded by these harsh consequences and judgment and circumstances did not lead you to where you thought you would be? And you just want to escape from everything you’ve ever known. Is there a place you could go?”
The Cruel Summer singer also said that she always watches Dateline, and after heartbreak, people often wonder if they could start afresh by moving to a new place, which very well could be Florida.
The Tortured Poets Department is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
