SUMMARY
  • Chris Evans is rumored to return to the MCU in 'Avengers: Doomsday' as The Beyonder.
  • The Beyonder is a near-omnipotent being with unimaginable powers who could potentially surpass Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.
  • In the comics, Beyonder and Doom face each other, suggesting a potential clash between Evans' and Downey in the MCU.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is building up its pace to have a grand conclusion of its multiverse saga. Just like Avengers: Endgame ended with the death of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and the retirement of Chris Evans’ Captain America, Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars could potentially end some more character arcs.

However, one interesting thing that Marvel did was bring back Downey as Doctor Doom, whose announcement broke the internet. Now, it seems like Evans is not far behind with his new rumored role.

Captain America was last seen in Endgame, where it was shown that he went back in time and spent his remaining life with Peggy Carter and returned old. After that, his whereabouts were never mentioned, except for a rumor that he is living in a base on the Moon.

Although Chris Evans earlier told Yahoo Entertainment (via Kevin Polowy on X) that he “really, really miss” some parts of his Captain America days, he also believed “it would be risky to revisit” as the character “went out on such a high note,” as he told on The Graham Norton Show (via Digital Spy).

However, a new report from The Wrap suggests that he might appear again in Avengers: Doomsday in an undisclosed role. Moreover, an earlier report from ComicBook also said that Evans might appear in one more Marvel installment, which could leave possibilities for his future appearances.

Now, with the report of his Doomsday appearance, many fans who have been speculating that he might appear as The Beyonder raised their hopes high once again.

The Beyonder belongs to a race of Beyonders who live outside the realm of the multiverse. He got to know about Marvel’s universe after a failed experiment of the Cosmic Cube by Owen Reece, which turned the latter into Molecule Man.

The Beyonder is a near-omnipotent being who can take any shape or form. He can alter reality at will and can time travel. He can even give life to the dead. All these powers make him a bigger superbeing than Doctor Doom for sure.

It is still unknown how Chris Evans will return in Doomsday. He could be playing his old Steve Rogers as seen in Endgame, or he could be a completely new character like Captain Hydra, Human Torch, or possibly The Beyonder.

However, bringing him back as The Beyonder might serve a deeper role than just nostalgia and a big moment in theaters. In the comics, Beyonder and Doom share a plot during the events of Secret Wars.

In comics, The Beyonder creates a Battleworld where he picks up super beings from different multiverses and orders them to fight each other, promising that the winner will get whatever he desires, and the Secret War begins. However, Doctor Doom somehow manages to absorb Beyonder’s power and becomes way more powerful than his usual form.

Following that, The Beyonder escapes, and months later visits Earth and gives himself some human forms to experience humanity. He then builds a body for himself that resembles Captain America after watching him defeat Armadillo.

These two incidents suggest that MCU could somehow manage to use these plots to bring back Chris Evans in the look of Captain America but in the form of Beyonder who could possibly have a close encounter with Robert Downey Jr.‘s Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will be released in theaters on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively.
