Rapper Tory Lanez is making waves on the internet after being sentenced to prison. Born as Daystar Peterson in Brampton, Ontario, he was relocated to Queens, New York as a kid. After turning 15, Lanez returned to Toronto to live with his grandmother and work on his music.

After his contract with Interscope, the singer released his debut single, I Told You, in 2016 after his contract with Interscope. The album reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, which had hits like Say It and Luv that went on to be ranked on the Billboard Hot 100. The debut album featured, the 31-year-old singing and rapping about his life struggles and getting his music aspirations off the ground.

Tory Lanez, was sentenced to ten years in jail on Tuesday for shooting fellow artist Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. He was found guilty in December 2022 of three felonies linked to the gunshot, which injured a fellow artist in the foot.

Judge David Herriford of the Los Angeles County Superior Court handed down the sentence on Tuesday, seven months after the rapper was convicted on three counts at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Centre. 

The Say It rapper shot the Her singer after a party at reality star and makeup entrepreneur Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills house on July 12, 2020. After leaving Jenner’s house, the pair were riding in an SUV with a woman named Kelsey Harris. The two artists got into an argument after the 28-year-old criticized Lanez’s rap talents. When she demanded to be allowed out of the car, Lanez allegedly fired multiple shots at her.
