But there is no confirmation of this rumor as of now. The evolution of the character was also noticed by Hailee Steinfeld who voiced Spider-Gwen. Talking with The Hollywood Reporter, she opened up about the character and what she felt about it at this time.

According to Steinfeld, the sequel captured and explored the character more deeply than the predecessor movie Into the Spider-Verse. Discussing more on the character,  the Bumblebee actor shared,

“We dug a little deeper into who she is and why she is the way she is, and it’s a big evolution”

Moreover, she also revealed that only she wasn’t given a script at all. Therefore apart from her dialogues, Steinfeld hardly knew what the whole story would be like.

When it comes to LGBTQ representation in superhero movies, it is not as prevalent. Even in this day and age, there is hardly any significant superhero character that is openly queer. There have been indications and suggestions in some cases, but that side of their life never gets explored in the films.

But after some eagle-eyed fans noticed the “protect trans kids” slogan in Spider-Gwen’s room in Across the Spider-Verse, rumors have gotten out about Gwen being trans. Moreover, even her father (a policeman by profession) has a badge concerning the trans community. This has further fueled many theories regarding Gwen’s gender identity.
