Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson meteorically rose to fame when they began starring in the Harry Potter film series. Much like their on-screen characters, Radcliffe, Grint and Watson were best friends in real life as they grew up to be adults. It never seemed as though they were competing with one another until they embarked on their solo acting careers, and that too was not something that they themselves seemed to be doing except Grint. Later, however, the Knock at the Cabin star expressed his honest thoughts about it.

Getting done with the Harry Potter film series was probably a bittersweet feeling for the cast and crew involved. On one hand, they had been working together on this wonderful thing for over a decade and would have to separate now. On the other hand, going their separate ways meant that they would finally get to do something different, something that was not related to the Potter-verse.

The film series undoubtedly made everyone involved famous, but there was no variety in what they were doing. Many of the actors later admitted that they wanted to explore other genres, which often entailed risks. Just like his co-stars, Rupert Grint took those risks. However, things might not have been as good for him as they did for Radcliffe and Watson.

The more the fame, the greater the scrutiny. Grint could not escape the prying claws of the tabloids and felt a “competitive element” in how the media compared his career with those of Radcliffe and Watson. However, the Moonwalkers actor did not take long to understand what was happening (via GQ).

‘Who’s doing what?’; people contrasting our careers. We’re all completely different and going along different paths.

The actor did not let all the media scrutiny deter him and braved through it all, knowing full well that they were different people who made choices that they thought were the best for them. The consequences were bound to be different and he seemed to make peace with it.

Working in a movie does not end with the performing for an actor, as they also need to promote it. Harry Potter was an entire series of eight movies with little to no time in between them for the cast and crew to recharge.

Exhaustion was inevitable with the grueling cycle of making a movie, doing the press, and then getting back on the set to make the next film. Grint expressed how he felt about the whole process.

Potter was so full on—[filming] all year, then we’d promote the rest of the time. It was quite suffocating. I wanted a break, to reflect on everything… It was an out-of-body experience for a while, but I think we finished at the right time. If we continued, it could’ve gone downhill.

This is not the first time an actor has addressed feeling fatigued due to the constant grind a franchise brings with it. Luckily, for these actors, they got out of it in time to give their careers a new direction.
