“Whose sole aim is to proliferate the industry”: Robert Downey Jr. Left No Stone Unturned to Humiliate Tom Holland and Scarlett Johansson in Public
Robert Downey Jr., the Hollywood celebrity known for his charm and sarcasm, isn’t the man who would normally insult his colleagues out in the open. However, this time around it seems like he embodied Tony Stark a little too much, and he wasn’t even on set or in an interview.
When his co-star Scarlett Johansson became the 35th recipient of the American Cinematheque Award, Downey Jr. congratulated her via a video message. And he went all out for it, not only congratulating the Black Widow star but insulting her too. And Johansson wasn’t the only one he aimed his insults at. Tom Holland was also one of them.
Robert Downey Jr. Insults Tom Holland
When Scarlett Johansson won the prestigious award for her contribution to the film industry, all of the cast from Marvel’s Avengers congratulated her at the ceremony. While some could not be there in person, they sent their congratulations to Johansson via videos that were played at the ceremony.
Robert Downey Jr. also sent a video message in a classic Tony Stark fashion. His message was sarcasm laden with affection in the undertones. But he started the video with a dig at the entertainment industry saying:
“This is Hollywood. We f****** love to congratulate ourselves.”
The actor then launches a rant about how busy he has been and how annoyed he is by the numerous video messages he had to record. He proceeds to include Tom Holland in his reasons for vexation, calling him a lawn fungus. The Iron Man actor said:
“As usual, 37 asks from Tom Holland, whose sole aim is to proliferate the industry like a f***ing lawn fungus.”
Just getting around to a stable place in your career, and having Robert Downey Jr. as your mentor who goes on to call you a lawn fungus on national television is pretty brutal.
Robert Downey Jr. was Pranked by Scarlett Johansson…Probably
After more such whimsical comments, Downey Jr. finally gets around to actually congratulating his co-star and commands him to put on the prompter which he reads the message from. He goes on to say:
“Scarlett, congratulations. I mean, you’re so deserving of this award. You’ve overcome so many obstacles to make space for yourself and others in a sea of overt and sub-intentional misogyny, exerted by everything from studios, directors, and producers to one-man toxic flotillas like me. Take it from me, Robert Downey Jr., the shortest leading man since Don Adams in ‘Get Smart’ who rivals Guiliani for the least subtle use of Just For Men Touch Of Gray hair dye…..”
A fan account posted the video clip:
FOR REAL THIS TIME😂

In the video, RDJ trails off, and turns out that behind all this was Johansson herself. Or so it is made to believe and is it just one of his tricks? Can’t be said. As the actor reads ahead:
“How far did we get you to go? Robert, it’s Scarlett and Colin, We had two glasses of white wine on a weeknight and felt like clowning you. Don’t actually put this on a prompter.”
Of course, ending the video on a sweet note, in again very Tony Stark fashion, RDJ says:
F-ck you, Scarlett.
There could not be a better choice to have someone else play Tony Stark. Or as the fans say, Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark.
