Can you picture an actress making her ‘red carpet appearance’ wearing flip-flops instead of high heels? Of course not, unless she is Jennifer Lawrence. The actress was recently invited to the Anatomy of a Fall premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Evidently, with her footwear choice, she has established herself as a person who cannot be avoided.

Why? Because she has switched from heels to flip-flops.

The Oscar-winning actress disobeyed red-carpet protocol during her recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival. Lawrence stepped out on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals on Sunday for the world premiere of the French movie, Anatomie D’une Chute (Anatomy Of A Fall).

The 32-year-old actress wore a vivid red custom couture dress with a long train, rounded bodice, and sleeveless silhouette. The outfit shared the same eye-catching color as her ‘Calvin Klein dress’ from the 2011 Academy Awards.

Jennifer Lawrence Chose ‘Very’ Unconventional Footwear For The Cannes Film Festival

Following a string of disastrous red carpet appearances, Jennifer Lawrence chooses ‘very’ unconventional footwear for this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

On Sunday afternoon, the actress was seen being led down the stairs at the Palais des Festivals while sporting a pair of black sandals. Her red dress, which had an A-line skirt, concealed the cozy shoes underneath. It seems Lawrence has made up her mind to totally go informal in favor of a different pair of shoes.

Instead of donning a pair of stiletto-heeled pumps or sandals like the gleaming gold pair, the Hunger Games star opted to don a pair of black rubber flip-flops.

She opted for unabashed practicality over formal glamor with her footwear, which featured thin flat soles topped by thong-style slip-on straps.

Lawrence’s renowned humor and relatability were enhanced by the unexpected look, which also made a point about the importance of prioritizing comfort when necessary (even on the Cannes red carpet).

She Embodied Both Glamor And Casualness On The Red Carpet

Jennifer Lawrence is in town to celebrate her documentary film, Bread and Roses, which she herself directed and produced. The movie explores the lives of three Afghan women in the years following the Taliban’s seizing of Kabul in 2021.

Lawrence attended a photocall for the movie while dressed in a netted Christian Dior dress with strappy detail layered beneath its open back. In addition to a chic Longines watch and a pair of Alison Lou drop earrings, her stylist Jamie Mizrahi, accessorized the sheer look with minimal jewelry.

After attending a photocall for her documentary, she changed into a red dress and flip-flops for her second appearance of the day. She said:

“There’s not an end to this story and you feel pretty much helpless when thinking about how to do anything about it. It’s a hard thing to market.”

A “raw, unsanitized depiction of the female plight in Afghanistan” is how the story of her documentary, Bread and Rose, is being described. As viewers will experience it through their own eyes, it primarily centers on three women who attempt to reclaim their identity and autonomy.

Every year, the upcoming international films of the year have their world premieres in Cannes, France. This year’s event will run from May 16 to May 27. Top movies of the year to premiere at the event include Le Retour, Jeanne du Barry, Elemental, and Anselm.
