Why WB Wanted to Delay Blue Beetle?

The ongoing Writer’s strike, as well as the actor’s strike, have surely put a temporary pause on many upcoming projects from film studios of all kinds in Hollywood. But despite this, a lot of films have not been affected at all in terms of their release date. One such is the upcoming film Blue Beetle from Warner Bros studios which is going to be released next month.

Reportedly the studio almost delayed the film’s release until next year given the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. But that idea has since been scrapped as the film will resume its August release.

Warner Bros’ Blue Beetle Almost Got Delayed

At present, the Warner Bros studio has set the release date for its upcoming film Blue Beetle starring Xolo Maridueña based on the DC character for next month. It turns out as per Puck, the studio had been considering a delay given the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. This would have set the date of release for next year. But ultimately, it was decided to continue with the 2023 release.

Also, Warner Bros initially decided on making the upcoming film Blue Beetle an HBO Max exclusive film, it is going to get a theatrical release this August. The film is not canon for the DC film universe, however, James Gunn has confirmed that Maridueña’s Blue Beetle will become a part of the new DCU. The first film to begin this new phase is going to be Superman: Legacy.

Some of the DC characters that will be seen in a new phase are Amanda Waller, Weasel, Peacemaker, etc. Even Blue Beetle will see a lot of DC characters making a cameo as Maridueña said,

“I think if you’re a DC fan, there’s going to be more than just one character that you recognize.”

There is no question that DC and are going to receive a treat with this Warner Bros film.

More on The Upcoming Blue Beetle

The plot of the upcoming Blue Beetle will revolve around Jaime Reyes played by Xolo Maridueña, a grad student who after coming in contact with an alien technology called Scarab ends up with a suit that gives him various abilities. These include enhanced strength, flight, weapons, energy generation, etc.

Before Reyes, other characters have taken up the Blue Beetle’s mantle at least in the comics. Besides Maridueña, the cast includes George Lopez, Becky G, Belissa Escobedo, etc. The film is called to release on the 18th of August.
