“Woof dodged a bullet there”: Tom Cruise Left Seth Rogen Terrified After Nearly Convincing Him to Join Scientology
It is no secret that Tom Cruise is a staunch supporter of the Church of Scientology, a religious organization that he attributes to his success in overcoming dyslexia. Through his criticisms of psychiatry and antidepressants, his attempts to promote Scientology in Europe, and a leaked video interview in which he endorsed the religion, he generated controversy during the 2000s.
In May 2021, Seth Rogan, a Canadian-American actor, claimed that Tom Cruise attempted to convince him to join the Church of Scientology. In addition, he was glad he dodged the Top Gun star’s suggestion that he join Scientology. Seth Rogen’s interview from May 2021 on Howard Stern’s podcast, The Howard Stern Show, was posted on TikTok on Saturday and had since been resurfacing. Also, the Top Gun star and Scientology leader David Miscavige recently faced a few jokes about them at the Golden Globes Award ceremony.

Seth Rogen Failed Tom Cruise’s Attempt To Convert Him Into Scientology
An account called Movie Maniacs on TikTok posted a 23-second clip of Seth Rogen‘s May 2021 interview on Howard Stern’s podcast on Saturday. It has reportedly gained nearly 2 million views. Rogen recounted how Tom Cruise attempted to recruit him into Scientology in a newly resurfaced clip on TikTok.
Rogen recalled,
“Cruise said, ‘If you let me just tell you what it was really about … If you let me — just give me like 20 minutes to like, really just tell you what it was about, you would say, No f–king way! No f–king way!’”
Rogen continued,
“I remember being like, the wording was like, is that a good thing to be saying?”
“I don’t know if I am — I’m generally a weak-willed, weak-minded person — I would assume on the grand scale of people. If they got him, what chance do I have?”
“Thank God Judd was like, ‘I think we’re good, let’s just talk about movies and stuff.’ Woof. Dodged that bullet.”
According to the Superbad actor, Cruise was present at the meeting with Judd Apatow. They looked at each other in that very loaded moment and wondered whether they were strong enough to come out of this without being converted. During the resurfaced video, Rogen said the Top Gun star sat him down and explained the truth behind religion to him.
Tom Cruise Faces Jokes at 2023 Golden Globes Awards By The Host
The Top Gun actor Tom Cruise’s support for Scientology was the topic of Jerrod Carmichael‘s jokes attack during the 2023 Golden Globes show. The host appeared on stage holding three Golden Globe trophies as he introduced presenters Glen Powell and Jay Ellis, Cruise’s co-stars from Top Gun: Maverick.
Carmichael joked,
“Backstage, I found these three Golden Globe Awards that Tom Cruise returned. Look, I’m just a host briefly or whatever, but just a pitch: I think maybe we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige.”
Known as “The First Lady of Scientology,” Shelly Miscavige was last seen in public on August 27, 2007, and her whereabouts have been a mystery ever since. In 2012, her attorneys claimed she was living a quiet life away from the spotlight.
However, as a protest at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s ethics and diversity failures, Cruise returned three awards he had won in the past. The host also joked at Cruise’s close friend David Miscavige, who has been Shelly Miscavige’s husband since 1982; also, he has served as Scientology’s leader since 1987. Despite bringing up a controversial issue close to Leah Remini’s heart, Golden Globes host Jerrod Carmichael got a big thumbs up from her. Nevertheless, it took a moment for the Globes audience to process the joke before a few hoots and cheers broke out.
