Worst Supervillain Movie Castings Ever, Ranked
What is a superhero if he doesn’t have a supervillain to go up against? Well, an aimless person who’ll eventually grow tired of fighting street crime (sorry Spider-Man). Overall, a hero needs a villain so that he can be a hero. However, some movies have inexplicably failed at casting the right guy for a supervillain role which ended up making the entire viewing experience bad. What’s the point of enjoying the villain when we cannot stand the villain? Today, we’ll talk about some of the worst supervillain movie castings ever! Check it out.
1. Jesse Eisenberg – Lex Luthor
Jesse Eisenberg is a great actor but he has a niche that people don’t understand. How did the creators ever think that people would buy Eisenberg to be as threatening as Lex Luthor in BvS? The only intensity that came with his acting is with the background that Hans Zimmer provided. Jesse Eisenberg was not meant for this role and it was a classic case of bad casting. An iconic Superman villain couldn’t be done justice with. While we don’t doubt Zack Snyder’s skills, he really could’ve done better here.
2. Jamie Foxx – Electro
If it wasn’t for Spider-Man: No Way Home, then people would’ve never regarded The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as a great movie, which it was. However, one element that bugged the hell out of people was the casting of Jamie Foxx as Electro which was not a good choice. Even though he somewhat got his redemption in No Way Home, but his performance is not good. When he tried to act like a goofball who’s alone all the time, it became cringe. And when he got all the power, he acted too much. It was him or maybe the character was written poorly.
3. Julian McMahon – Dr Doom
Dr Doom is easily one of the most famous Marvel Comic book villains. However, when he came to live-action, fans simply chose to ignore the mistake which was literally wrong on so many levels. At the time of the casting in 2005, McMahon had notoriously gained the reputation of playing such a devious role, thanks to his spot-on performance in the series Nip/Tuck. Even though his great acting wasn’t luck, but his charm was nowhere to be found in Fantastic Four and even the costume was straight-up poorly imagined. There is so much that could’ve been done with the character. Now that the F4 is finally coming to the MCU, we expect a good casting as and when Dr Doom makes his comeback.
4. Topher Grace – Venom
Topher Grace became a household name after playing Eric Foreman in That ’70s Show. The actor showed his skills of great comic timing and a wide spectrum of his skills. Hence, when he left the show, the fans thought that he is coming to take the world. But he fell severely short, all thanks to his gig as Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-Man 3. His acting was cringe and he singlehandedly managed to ruin the iconic character of Eddie Brock. It wasn’t until Tom Hardy played the character and brought it to life. Grace has suffered to make a comeback since then.
5. Dragon Ball: Evolution (The ENTIRE Cast)
Dragon Ball: Evolution made it very clear that if you’re incapable, then just let it because there’s no point in trying. Consider this as an honorary mention because this movie has to be included in a list that includes worst casting. From the hero to villain and even the supporting characters, everyone fell short. To this date, this movie is considered an abomination and fans have since then stopped expecting a live-action Dragon Ball movie. Which is the worst supervillain casting in your opinion?
