“Would you change things?”: For the First Time in Indiana Jones Franchise, 80-Year-Old Harrison Ford Will Attempt to Replicate Success of ‘Back to the Future’
In addition to appearing in his final and fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, legendary actor Harrison Ford will turn 81 in July. The actor claimed in a magazine interview that he made sure Indiana Jones in Dial of Destiny appeared and felt old.
James Mangold, who previously directed Ford v Ferrari and Logan, took over as the film’s director in place of Steven Spielberg, who continues to serve as the film’s executive producer alongside George Lucas, the franchise’s other key creator. Frank Marshall is producing the movie.
Frank Marshall explains The Dial of Destiny is about maths and time
Frank Marshall, the producer of Indiana Jones, said the movie is about time and is ideal for them in an interview with SFX Magazine. He added that it’s math and time. He said, “We always try and have some sort of archaeological connection and there was certainly that – there’s a mythology to the Dial of Destiny that exists. It turned out to be the perfect thing for this movie.”
When asked if they are planning to go full sci-fi with the fifth installment of the movie, Marshall said, “Well, yes and no. It works in the plot because it is scientific. I guess it’s scientific! It really works for what we are doing and it sets up a whole lot of great plot points. The question is, if you could control time, like in Back to the Future, would you change things? And what would that mean? That’s a big question for everybody, and certainly is in the movie.”
Harrison Ford on reprising Indiana Jones
During an interview with Esquire Magazine, Harrison Ford said, “I wanted an ambitious movie to be the last one. And I don’t mean that we didn’t make ambitious movies before — they were ambitious in many different ways. But not necessarily as ambitious with the character as I wanted the last one to be.”
The actor also explained that he decided to go shirtless during one of the early scenes in the movie, pointing out that waking up in his underwear with an empty glass in his hand was his idea. Marshall had revealed how they attempted to twist the story with Mads Mikkelsen, who plays Voller, a deeply sinister mathematician with a Nazi past. Voller aims to reverse the past in the name of the Third Reich.
Talking about the same, he said, “The character wants to go back and change time, change what happened, and obviously it turns out to be in Nazi Germany. The Nazis are kind of a thread we’ve had through all of the movies. I think it definitely works this time.” He also added that it’s a plot that drives the story.
Harrison Ford to make his Marvel debut in Captain America: New World Order
Veteran actor, Harrison Ford is excited to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside actor Anthony Mackie in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order. During an interview with Variety, he was asked how he felt about his debut, to which he said, “Yeah. I mean, there are tough days and easy days and fun days and all kinds of days. It’s a tough schedule and, yeah, it’s fun. But it’s not a walk in the park. It’s not fun. It’s work.”
Harrison Ford will be playing the character of Thaddeus ‘Thunderbold’ Ross, who was previously portrayed by William Hurt, who sadly passed away in March 2022. During an interview with a Hollywood reporter, he said that he has seen all these terrific actors having a good time and he likes doing something different from what he has ever done and trying to impress the audience, which is why he took up the role in a Marvel movie.
The upcoming movie will be the first time Mackie fully takes on the role of Captain America after actor Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers passed him the mantle at the end of Avengers: Endgame and he eventually came to grips with the role in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny opens in theaters on June 30 from Disney.
