When Aaron Sorkin was asked to write a s*x scene between Nicole Kidman and Alec Baldwin, it was an unappealing experience for the writer to craft that steamy scene. What’s more startling is that the writer of A Few Good Man is still not over that distasteful experience and regrets it today.

Aaron Sorkin was the one who was approached to write the sizzling and steamy intimate scenes between Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and Alec Baldwin in Malice, despite not wanting to do so. The writer revealed that it was a terrible experience to write a s*x scene for Tom Cruise‘s then-wife as he collaborated with Cruise for a movie at that time. Speaking to USA Today, Sorkin recalled his conversation with the director of the film:

“I hadn’t written that much at the time, I’d only written A Few Good Men. And I said, ‘Boy, exactly what do you mean?’ And he said, Look, it’s easy, just go back to your hotel and write what you’d like to see Nicole Kidman do.”

The writer explained that the director Harold Becker wanted him to craft a sizzling scene between the co-stars and make it the way Sorkin would personally envision Kidman do the scene. The writer then replied to the director of Malice and said:

“I said, ‘Are you out of your mind?’ First of all, I just did a movie with her husband [Tom Cruise]. And second of all, no, I’m not going to write down what I’d like to see Nicole do and then hand the pages out to the crew and Nicole.”

From the commencement of the project, Aaron Sorkin was uncomfortable writing explicit scenes as he was more interested in the build-up to the intimate moments rather than showcasing steamy intimate scenes on-screen. Things turned more challenging for the writer when he had to write the s*x scene for Nicole Kidman who was then Tom Cruise’s wife which made the situation highly disgusting and eventually stepped away from writing the scene.

Chastain after witnessing Sorkin’s story regarding Melice’s explicit scenes, stated: “It’s so disturbing.”

Sorkin continued to discuss Molly’s Game and revealed that he did not find it right to decide the costumes of Chastain’s character Molly Bloom and said:

“When a costume designer says, ‘Which one of these (dresses) do you like Jessica in?’ I can’t even point, it just feels wrong.”

Aaron Sorkin beyond question is an incredible writer who is lauded for writing remarkable dialogues in movies and as expected, Molly’s Game received positive reviews from film critics, especially Jessica Chastain’s bold performance, and sharp and witty dialogues with a compelling real-life story.
