This news is just what Marvel needs right now. With the original Avengers slowly stepping away, the studio is eager for some new, exciting characters to spice things up.

Executive producer Brad Winderbaum just teased that Season 2 of X-Men ’97 will bring not one, but two new X-teams. That’s right, instead of just sticking with the usual X-Men, the show is appending more groups with the “X-“ in their names. He told Collider:

There’s many teams, in Marvel, that have the letter ‘X’ that are followed by a hyphen. I would put it to you like this… there’s two other X teams in Season 2.

This will add a lot of new drama to the show with new storylines and rivalries. At D23, Marvel Animation announced that Polaris, Lady Deathstrike, and Sabretooth will be in the next season. Polaris used to be in a team called X-Factor with other mutants like Havok, Wolfsbane and Quicksilver.

On the other hand, Lady Deathstrike and Sabretooth were in a group called the Weapon X-Men, which also had characters like Mystique, Domino, Warpath, and Logan. When Wolverine and Warpath left, the team changed its name to Weapon X-Force.

So, if we put all this together it looks like we might see X-Factor and a version of the Weapon X-Men in the new season. Sounds interesting! Only old X-Men movies showed the main team, but now inserting new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems like a great idea. With the original Avengers moving on, Marvel needs some fresh faces. And guess what? X-Men ‘97 is here to bring that zeal!

A Fresh Look and New Talent Behind the Scenes

Season 2 of X-Men ’97 is going to be extra awesome! Not only will there be new characters, but the X-Men will also get cool new outfits inspired by Grant Morrison’s New X-Men comics.

Matthew Chauncey, who worked on What If…?, is now taking over as the head writer. With his new ideas, we’re expecting the series to get a fresh look and even find its direction. Chauncey is taking over from Beau DeMayo, who was expelled from Marvel before the first season came out.

X-Men ’97 is available to watch on Disney+.
