X-Men: Dark Phoenix Director Apologizes For X-Men: The Last Stand
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is the latest film by Fox Studios, and quite possibly the last film under the Fox banner before the Disney-Fox merger takes place. Many fans are already tired of Fox’s interpretation of X-Men. The film is directed by Simon Kinberg, who also happens to be the writer for X3: The Last Stand. The Last Stand released in 2003 that narrated the story of the Dark Phoenix but was slammed by both, fans and critics.
The film was so bland that Fox decided to wipe it out with their time traveling Days of Future Past. Director Simon Kinberg addressed this recently during the New York Comic Con, even apologizing for X3.
“I’m sorry for X-Men 3… We tried to tell the Dark Phoenix story and we didn’t do it properly. So, with this Dark Phoenix story there is no ‘cure’ plot, there is no other plot. It is the Dark Phoenix story, as told in comics, as told in the cartoons. Sophie is the center of the film, that’s why she’s the one person that’s in the teaser poster. The entire movie revolves around her.”
This might be to reassure fans that the upcoming Dark Phoenix will be much better than its earlier adaptation, but it seems more like Kinberg is simply trying to reassure himself than others. With Fox delaying its release and the trailer not faring too well among fans, there is little to no hope for the film.
Dark Phoenix hits the theaters in February next year.
