Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista are two of the biggest action stars right now, known for their roles in major films like Aquaman and Guardians of the Galaxy. Though they’ve both been active in Hollywood for years, the two actors had yet to work together until now. Momoa is especially excited about the collaboration since he previously passed on a chance to star alongside Bautista in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Jason Momoa admitted on ‘On The Roam‘ show that despite his major roles in franchises like Game of Thrones and Aquaman, he doesn’t feel satisfied with his career achievements yet. He expressed interest in pursuing more comedy projects, noting his upcoming collaboration with Dave Bautista.

“I’m going to do another comedy-esque action thing with Dave Bautista after that,” Momoa said. “If people love this, I’d love to do a Season 2.”

It’s clear Momoa is eager to team up with Bautista on screen after passing on that initial MCU opportunity all those years ago. Though the two actors took separate franchise paths earlier in their careers, they seem poised to entertain audiences with their natural chemistry in multiple projects moving forward.

Why Did Jason Momoa Initially Dodge the MCU Opportunity?

Back in 2018, Jason Momoa revealed that he had passed on two potential roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe years earlier. First, he auditioned for an unspecified villain role that would have had him working with directing duo the Russo Brothers.

He also auditioned for the part of Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy, which eventually went to Dave Bautista. At the time, Momoa was still early in his career outside of his role on Game of Thrones. So when the MCU opportunities arose, he ultimately felt too intimidated to pursue them further.

Of course, Momoa quickly found major success as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe just a couple of years later. But he did seem to regret passing on the chance to enter the MCU alongside Bautista back then. On The Roam is streaming on HBO Max.
