“Yes, but you’re a wimp”: Sandra Bullock Proved She’s the Baddest Actress on the Planet, Left Alfonso Cuarón Shocked by Staying Calm Despite Nearly Losing Her Life
Undoubtedly 2013’s sci-fi trailer Gravity had been one of the greatest movies to come out that year. Being all about space and life in zero gravity, many of the scenes required a lot of effort both mentally and physically. Especially Sandra Bullock who played the role of the protagonist had to go through hours of shooting in isolation. Among all that, she also went through a particularly fatal scene when she had been underwater. The actress once revealed what she had felt back then while shooting the scene. Even Alfonso Cuarón, the director had all but concern for the actress. But, Bullock surely did not disappoint instead she left the director in awe of her endurance and performance throughout the filming.
Sandra Bullock’s Endurance while Filming Gravity Left Director Alfonso Cuarón impressed
From the movie itself, it can be seen that Gravity likely had lots of difficult scenes involved. It may not be obvious but behind-the-scene stories are enough to tell the degree of difficulties while filming the sci-fi thriller. As most movies based on space have zero gravity shots in them, therefore it could make the filming process extra difficult. Among the many exhausting and mentally draining scenes that Sandra Bullock went under, one, in particular, had been fatal. A scene shot underwater almost made the actor fight for her life. It had been risky as she recounted to Rolling Stones.
According to Bullock, she was supposed to lose her suit underwater. The sequence had been for a scene involving weightlessness in which her character gets rid of her space suit. But in real-time, she was left by herself underwater with the rescue divers 10 minutes away. This resulted in a serious concern for her life in all the other scenes. Complimenting her work director Alfonso Cuarón said if it had been he would have screamed while doing the shots. To which Bullock replied jokingly, “Yes, but you’re a wimp.” Cuarón admitted the demanding nature of the film. He also mentioned how draining the actress was isolated inside the Light Box or the Space Shuttle.
