American actor Kirsten Dunst is best known for her performance as Mary Jane in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. The 41-year-old star has been a significant part of movies like The Power Of The Dog, Little Women, Melancholia, and Marie Antoinette. She even earned an Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actress for the Jane Campion-directed The Power of the Dog.
Kirsten Dunst appeared for an interview with a reputed media outlet and subtly hinted towards her comeback as MJ for Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4.
Kirsten Dunst Is Open To Returning As Marie Jane In Tobey Maguire Led Spider-Man 4
Kirsten Dunst is busy promoting her upcoming war-based drama Civil War which is slated to release on April 12, 2024. During an appearance on Marie Claire, the actor spoke about her life after motherhood, turning 40, and being typecasted in Hollywood. While talking about her dream of landing a good TV show, the Spider-Man actor was asked about doing a superhero project, to which she honestly responded-
“Yes, because you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother.”
This is not the first time, the Oscar-nominated actor has hinted towards her comeback as MJ, previously, during an interview with Variety in 2021, Dunst mentioned that she would love to play the character of Mary Jane. She said-
“I would do it. Why not? That would be fun. I would never say no to something like that. I’d be old MJ at this point with little Spidey babies.”
Well, if Sam Raimi decides to go ahead with the Spider-Man franchise, Mary Jane and Peter Parker are all geared up to be a part of the fourth chapter of the web crawler franchise
Kirsten Dunst Breaks Her Silence On Being Called A Girly-Girl On The Set Of Spider-Man
During a recent interview with Marie Claire, Kirsten Dunst reflected on not standing up for herself during the filming of Spider-Man. She revealed that she no longer feels nervous on the movie sets. While talking about her Spider-Man days, Dunst went on to recall not being able to speak for herself on the Spider-Man set. She said-
“It was a joke, but on Spider-Man, they would call me ‘girly-girl’ sometimes on the walkie-talkie. ‘We need girly girl.’ But I never said anything. … Like, don’t call me that!”
The Little Women actor confessed that her former child explained about the #MeToo Movement and said-
“You didn’t say anything. You just took it.”
Dunst even mentioned that she had told her manager that she got hired only because filmmakers wanted to sleep with her. She said-
“I feel like I get hired because I’m someone that they might want to sleep with. I think that’s probably why I migrated to so many female directors at a younger age because I didn’t want to feel that way”
While explaining why she chose not to capitalize off her Spider-Man fame, she said-
“That’s great for some people. It’s not the artist that I want to be. It was just growing up, and migrating to things that spoke to me. I always just navigated with my heart.”
Kirsten Dunst will be seen in an upcoming political thriller Civil War.
