Brad Pitt was cast in Thelma & Louise, but there were several difficulties behind the scenes. Brad Pitt is a movie legend these days, but he didn’t get there overnight. As we’ll see later, Thelma & Louise played an important part in his success. The rivalry for the character of JD was fierce, with several Hollywood A-listers auditioning for the part. Geena Davis remembered some of the audition processes and said Pitt was so excellent that she fumbled through their time together.
Pitt was cast in the part, but the actor admitted that they changed their minds several times. Furthermore, an A-list performer was enraged by the result. Pitt is grateful for the role years later. Thankfully, Brad Pitt and this A-list thespian are still pals, but they don’t mind pranking each other.
Brad Pitt Opened Up About Losing His Role in Thelma & Louise Three Times
According to Brad Pitt, landing the career-changing part was fraught with difficulties behind the scenes. The actor admitted that the part wasn’t his at first and that he lost it several times.
“Yeah, I guess that was my big league debut. Geena was lovely, kind, and sensitive. That passion moment, I believe, took two days to film. She looked after me.”
“I just thought to myself, ‘I’m the guy for this.’ They did, however, go through several other performers. I didn’t get the portion at first, and then it came around again and I didn’t get it, so I thought, ‘Huh. Okay, fine. ‘Let’s move on.’ And then it came full circle. It felt like three times.”
Many other A-listers were considered but they finally went with Pitt. And it eventually became his big break.
George Clooney was unhappy with Brad Pitt’s choice for the role, and he told Geena Davis about it
Pitt was cast in the character, but one actor, in particular, was not happy. Clooney was unhappy about the choice, according to Geena Davis.
“You know what, I hate that Brad Pitt,” she remembered. “No, you don’t,” she responded, laughing. ‘Isn’t he your closest friend?‘ ‘No, no, I despise him,’ George replied. “He got the part in Thelma and Louise,” Davis remembers.
Things worked out just fine between Pitt and Clooney, who were able to form a strong bond due to Ocean’s Eleven. Clooney, on the other hand, pranked Pitt throughout their lives. One, in particular, saw Clooney send dialect recordings to Meryl Streep and claimed it was from Pitt.
“I sent that audio thing to her, the best actress of all time… I sent it from Brad with a card that said, “Dear Meryl, I hear you’re going to play the Iron Lady.” Clooney disclosed, “This man assisted me with my accent in “Troy.”
It definitely was a win-win for Brad Pitt, he got the role and also a great friend later.
