Brendan Fraser hasn’t had what one might call a ‘smooth-sailing career’. The actor peaked in the late 90s and early 2000s with mega-hits like George of the Jungle and The Mummy franchise. But then his career almost hit a roadblock due to several factors. The most prominent of them being the allegations that he made against a certain Hollywood executive – Philip Berk, whom he accused of s*xually assaulting him in 2003. He got reportedly blacklisted from Hollywood after he made the heinous accusations. And his career after that had been practically squat.
2022’s The Whale was in many ways Fraser’s comeback and it has also brought him into the race for the Oscars. He has got fans rooting for him from all sides. But even in his bad times, he had a few friends from the industry by his side, who continue to remain his cheerleaders. His Scrubs costar Zach Braff being one of them.
Brendan Fraser and Zach Braff have been close friends for two decades
Brendan Fraser and Zach Braff have been friends since the former guest-starred in the popular American sitcom Scrubs which had Braff as its main lead. Fraser appeared on the show in 2002 to portray the character of Ben Sullivan. In fact, one of the episodes that the 54-year-old starred in, ‘My Screwup’ is often considered one of the best episodes of the series, being very emotional.
In the years that followed, the two actors maintained a close friendship and are still tight after two decades. Even when Fraser was sort of a pariah in Hollywood and was on his forced hiatus, the A Good Person actor continued to support him.
Zach Braff fanboys over close friend Brendan Fraser and roots for Oscar win
Back in 2022, the Alex, Inc. actor was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly where he left no stone unturned in hyping up the Blast from the Past actor. He said,
“I got goosebumps when asked about him. I have such a warm place in my heart for that man. I loved spending time with him. I’m just so happy for him. You honestly couldn’t meet a nicer person. He’s just the sweetest. I haven’t even seen all the movies [this year], but I hope he wins.”
About Fraser’s stint on Scrubs, the 47-year-old said,
“I think his episode arc of Scrubs is probably the most talked about in nine seasons of the show. People loved his character, people root for him. They just love the man, and they love the actor.”
About his bond with the Bedazzled actor and their shared interests, Braff said,
“Brendan has remained in my life all these years because I have nine zillion polaroid pictures that I took just because of him.”
That’s quite a beautiful friendship that the two men share and it is genuinely refreshing to see friends supporting and standing up for each other the way Braff did.
