Zack Snyder is one such amazing director that has a hardcore fan following. Snyder’s films are a class apart from the regular movies that come out of Hollywood. He is hated and loved in equal measure. In a recent interview, he explained how he got into the world of film direction.

Directing films is incredibly hard. It takes a lot of talent and effort to get things right. Only people with exceptional creativity and art rise to become good directors. These people usually have interesting backstories, which often explain their direction style and peculiarities. 

How Zack Snyder’s Art Advisor Got Him Into Directing Movies

As aforementioned, Zack Snyder is an incredible director. His body of work is legendary and he has a huge number of dedicated fans who love his work. In a recent interview conducted by none other than the Russo brothers themselves, Snyder revealed a lot about his life. He went back into his early days as a student at various institutions and discussed them in great detail. 

Zack Snyder’s Justice League director revealed that he had a strong passion for filmmaking and direction since his high school days. He was pretty big into amateur filmmaking and was really crazy about it. Later, he went to art school to study painting. There his paintings came out as “cinematic”, observing which his art advisor advised him to consider directing and making films. Zack Snyder joked that it was perhaps his “horrible” paintings that led his advisor to request him to make films and leave paintings.

Zack Synder said,

“During my course of studies in London at Heatherly’s my art advisor said something because maybe my paintings were horrible. She said, You know you really loved making these movies and your paintings are really cinematic.”

He continued,

“Maybe I love making movies and that was fun and you know I always thought would be cool but you know I thought can I be a movie director? that feels like a big thing. So I sent out for a bunch of films called catalogs the Art Center College design catalog and I totally Judged it by the cover.”

The screenwriter added,

“I remember there was a picture in the film department it was like there was students on a crane with a panovision camera and the guy was pointing it was cool. So yeah that’s how I ended up in Pasadena and I had submitted my paintings as a part of my portfolio. I have a rigorous illustration and sort of art spine which stays pretty intense because painting or drawings are great but not every filmmaker have that skill set.”

This hilarious anecdote sheds light on the adventures and life of Zack Snyder, which ultimately brought him into the world of filmmaking. The Rebel Moon, Zack Synder’s upcoming project, is set to be released on December 22, 2023.
