Zoe Saldana’s Final Wish Before Leaving MCU Might Never Come True, Gamora Actor Wanted Marvel to Make a Spin Off Movie For Her Character
Zoe Saldana is one of the strongest performers in Hollywood. Famed for her roles in sci-fi franchises, she is the second-highest-grossing film actress.
Saldana bid adieu to one of her most notable roles as the assassin Gamora in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. However, this is not the way the actress wanted things to end. In Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Saldana expressed her desire for a spin-off for her character. But with James Gunn leaving Marvel, the Guardians chapter is pretty much closed. Saldana’s wish might never come true.
Zoe Saldana Wanted a Spin-Off for Gamora

Saldana’s journey concluded with to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 but the actress had different plans. The Adam Project actress wanted a spin-off on Gamora’s bond with her sister Nebula. Speaking on the Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, on Disney+, Saldana said (via The Direct):
“I would have loved to have just seen a spin-off based on that sisterhood. It’s so complex. It’s so controversial.
A Gamora-Nebula Spin-off Series
Even though Zoe Saldana’s wish might never turn into fruition, her idea does sound like the beginning of something brilliant. Nebula, played by Karen Gillian is Gamora’s estranged sister. From not wanting to see eye to eye to being the family both never had, the development their characters have been through is really something.
The project would be an impressive whirlwind, showing the journey of the two sisters covering their traumatic childhood, how they got estranged and eventually found their way back to each other.
Saldana believes that the storyline could have resonated with people who have had tumultuous childhoods and found comfort in their siblings. In her own words (via Direct):
“It’s also so relatable in a sense that, not me by personal experience, but knowing that there are siblings out there that have had troubled lives at home, and managed to survive because of their kinship, because of their brotherhood or their sisterhood.”
Commenting on the changes the sisters’ relationship has been through, franchise creator James Gunn said (via Direct):
“Nebula has grown up quite a bit. If anything, in many ways, she’s the leader of the Guardians because Quill has been incapacitated by his own emotional situation. And we see, you know, Nebula and Gamora as the way they are now, and they’ve changed roles from what they were in ‘Guardians 1’.”
Even as this masterpiece of an idea will never be materialized, the sisterhood story so far is complete in its own way.
