$10M Rich Plus Size Model Ashley Graham Still Fighting for “Size Diversity on the Runway”
Ashley Graham, a model and television presenter, believes that there is still much work to be done in the modelling industry to increase size diversity. Fashion is much more than just a trend; it has a significant impact on many people, so inclusivity is essential. Graham claims that she has been in the industry for 20 years and that she is still fighting for equal treatment.
The 35-year-old model recently discussed her feelings about the modelling industry’s inability to accept plus-sized models in many areas of work.
Ashley Graham says she never felt complete
Ashley Graham made an appearance at the 12th annual Women Making History Awards gala in Washington, D.C. In an interview, she spoke about how many women in the modelling industry still struggle due to people not being to accept diversity in the modelling industry. The mom of 3 children, spoke about how she still fights for size diversity. Graham said,
“I have been working as a model for over 20 years, and I still am fighting to this day for equality of size diversity on the runway on the covers of magazines, and film, and TV. And it’s never felt complete.”
According to Graham, there is still much more to be accomplished in this area. People still don’t accept size diversity in the modelling industry, especially on the runway. Graham also encouraged young women to come out and fight for size diversity. The social media influencer said,
“I think there’s still a lot of work to do. And that’s why I tell younger women and women who are also fighting for what things that they believe is just to keep going. Keep fighting, keep striving for what it is that you want to change.”
Graham dislikes being labelled as a plus-sized model and has stated in the past that she hates having to constantly discuss her body. The model wants people to refer to her as a woman rather than a plus-sized model.
There are days when Ashley Graham feels insecure
Graham admitted that she has days when she feels insecure and tells herself that she is not faking it and that everything will be fine. The model also revealed to try to fake it, but that it’s okay to fake it and then how she accepted herself for who she is. Graham said,
‘It’s okay. We’re feeling insecure.’ I don’t fake it. I have faked it. But I think that it’s okay to have those moments. And it’s okay to live in that.”
Despite her dislike for discussing her body, Graham continues to spark discussion about plus-sized models because she recognizes the importance of such discussions.
For Ashley Graham Beauty is beyond the size
Graham isn’t a fan of posting perfect photos on social media. The model prefers to keep things real. She enjoys showing off her cellulite, stretch marks, and back fat. She wants people to understand that it is okay to not have a perfect body. Graham said in her interview,
“For me, beauty has always been beyond size. This is about using women who look different because we all look different, and we need to praise that difference about us. That is what is beautiful, it’s that we’re all not created the same.”
She further added,
“So I am just so happy that I actually make lingerie for women who want to feel s*xy and who want to feel accepted.”
Graham is a role model for many young girls who are overweight. The television host was told from a young age that she needed to lose weight to be successful in life.
