$120M Rich Kelly Ripa Refused Endorsing ‘Unhealthy’ Weight-Loss Medicine But Has Zero Regrets Working With Soft Drink Brands That Lead To Obesity
Kelly Ripa has achieved quite a lot in the course of her career. The Live star has gone from strength to strength and accumulated a lot of fame over the course of her almost 3-decade-long career. No wonder she has earned a name for herself in the industry.
It is only natural that she has a net worth of $120 million. But her success on the set is in no small part down to the advertisements she has been a part of. But she once turned down an opportunity because of its bizarre timing. It was an ad that came her way when she was pregnant.
Why Kelly Ripa couldn’t do an ad
Advertisements are indeed one of the highest sources of earning for stars. Britney Spears made a fortune with her $8 million Pepsi commercial. So did George Clooney with his Nespresso deal cashing in on $40 million. Kelly Ripa has also added millions to her kitty with a slew of advertisements.
But there was this one ad that she couldn’t do, one deal she had no option but to leave. The reason behind that was her pregnancy. When she was pregnant, she was offered to feature in an ad for a weight-loss medicine. But the idea of a pregnant woman featuring in an ad for a slimming medicine didn’t sit right with her.
Doing an ad for a weight loss medicine while pregnant just didn’t make sense
Though the All My Children alum has a track record for being really fit around the clock, it was only obvious that she wouldn’t be the same while pregnant. Recalling the moment, she said,
“Sometimes you get some very strange requests. I remember once when I was pregnant and they asked me if I wanted to do a weight-loss medicine. I was like, ‘I’m just pregnant.'”
She obviously turned down the offer. She found the medicine to be unhealthy and didn’t want to be seen supporting its consumption. One can imagine the amount of controversy that commercial could have stoked back in the day, for both the enterprise and the Hope and Faith alum herself. And that loss didn’t hurt her prospects at all. She had already made it big anyway.
Kelly Ripa had no qualms with featuring in an ad for obesity-causing soft drinks
The Generation Gap host might have turned down that offer because she found it to be unhealthy for her. But that wasn’t the case for some other, equally risky, products. The Cheaper by the Dozen star has featured in the ads for soft drinks like 7 Up, a product that leads to obesity.
Ripa never claimed to have a problem with that. That seems slightly hypocritical of her, doesn’t it?
