1883 Actor Hates Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone Despite Loving Kevin Costner as Show’s Dangerous Patriarch

Sam Elliott’s love for Kevin Costner could not make him love Yellowstone.

In the ever-evolving world of Hollywood, actors star in several projects that may or may not have a defining spot in their careers. In an industry where it is hard to make a name for yourself, several actors do the roles or stories they don’t like. Similar is the case with 1883 star Sam Elliott. In an interview, The Ranch star revealed that he is not fond of the show despite having immense love and respect for Kevin Costner.

Sam Elliott is Not Fond of Yellowstone

Taylor Sheridan’s neo-western drama is easily one of the biggest shows in recent years. The show follows The Dutton family owners of the largest ranch in Montana, the YellowstoneRanch. Starring the two-time Academy Award Winner Kevin Costner as John Dutton III, the family drama at the ranch had viewers hooked from the get-go.

The series first premiered in 2018 and was highly successful throughout its five-season run prompting the makers to have a prequel titled 1883, led by Sam Elliott. But in an interview, Elliott shocked fans of the show and the spin-off with the revelation that he is not a fan. Even though he aces his role as Shea Drennan in the miniseries showing how the Dutton family settled in Montana, the show does not match Elliott’s taste as a viewer.

Making himself clear in his interview on WTF with Marc Maron podcast, Elliott says:

“I’m not a Yellowstone fan. I don’t watch Yellowstone. —It’s just too much like fucking Dallas or something for me.”

With the intricacies Elliott plays his character, no one could have guessed he dislikes the show so much.

Sam Elliott is a Fan of Kevin Costner

The place where the Ghost Rider star does not contradict popular opinion is his admiration for Kevin Costner. He mentioned how he respects Costner for his craft and demeanor. But his love for Costner could not make him love the show or the story. Praising Costner and the cast he says:

 “I love Costner. There’s a lot of good people on the cast”

Although it is not uncommon to not like something your favorite celebrity has starred in, this one is a bit of a shocker, given Elliott himself also stars in the same story. The actor also said that he doesn’t quite like how Yellowstone sort of overshadows the spinoff series he stars in.

“We’re tainted by Yellowstone, which, on some level, I can’t stand. Because I think 1883 stands alone.”

Moreover, Elliott’s dislike of the show is clearly not shared by the masses; as the series has now returned with another spinoff, titled 1923 following the next generation of the Dutton family was released soon after 1883 was concluded.

Yellowstone and 1883 are now streaming on Fubo and the latest sequel 1923 on Paramount+.
