$400M Rich Mark Wahlberg Had to Change His Career “out of necessity”, Blames Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio
Mark Wahlberg is easily one of the fittest and most hardworking actors in Hollywood. From going to jail to being a two-time Oscar nominee, the Shooter star poured his heart and soul into making a name for himself. Wahlberg is a multi-faceted person with success in multiple endeavors. He is a popular musician, a versatile actor, an avid fitness enthusiast, and a producer.
With his net worth being $400 million, Wahlberg has made it big. However, the actor claims that keeping up with the big names in the industry caused him to have a different approach to the entertainment business.
Mark Wahlberg Struggled to Get Roles
Hollywood being the mine of talent it is, can be an extremely competitive sphere. The politics and scandals that go on behind the scenes make a difference for people who are not on the highest step of the ladder. The challenges of keeping up with the several aspects of being a celebrity, along with the additional pressures cannot be handled by everyone.
Additionally, competing with people on the higher end of things is unfair but that is the film industry. This is something Mark Wahlberg also struggled with.

Starting out as an actor in the early 90s, this was a time in Hollywood when Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt had established themselves as highly bankable stars. Every major movie and every good script went to these leading men of Hollywood first. Depriving relatively lesser-known actors like Wahlberg of roles they’d want to do or even could do better than most.
Wahlberg admitted that his struggles of not getting roles, and being in a lower tier than DiCaprio and Pitt in the hierarchy of Hollywood is what caused him to take a big step in his professional life.
Why did Mark Wahlberg Venture into Film Production?
Talkin to Cigar Aficionado magazine, Wahlberg revealed being frustrated with waiting for films to come to him. The actor blames DiCaprio and Pitt, saying he would get scripts they didn’t want to do. That wasn’t good enough for him. Instead, Wahlberg decided to venture into film production, to do things on his own. As he told the magazine (via Variety):
“I started becoming a producer out of necessity. I didn’t want to sit around waiting for Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or whoever was already established before me and were the guys at the time, and Leo [DiCaprio], to go and pass on a movie until I could get my hands on it. I was always proactive in trying to find material and things that I could produce, that I knew was right for me, create my own destiny.”
Since 2010, Wahlberg has been the producer and executive producer of most of his films. A prime example of if something isn’t handed to you, you take it.
