Star Wars, an American epic space opera created by George Lucas, began its saga with the 1977 film. Since then, there has been no turning back for the franchise, which became a global pop culture phenomenon almost instantly. It is actually one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, thanks to its ever-growing popularity among fans. 2024 might as well be called the Star Wars year since five shows from the universe are ready to take to the screen throughout the year.

Star Wars has been on Disney’s high-priority list ever since the MCU shows and movies started faltering. It is also because the record-breaking success of the Star Wars trilogy and The Mandalorian opened up a possibility for more Disney+ movies and TV shows based on the franchise. However, fans do not seem as excited as Disney probably hoped they would be. Although there is still a significant buzz around the shows, fans only seem to truly care about two of the five shows slated for 2024.

5 Star Wars shows that will be released in 2024: a big step by Disney

Disney wants to focus the entirety of 2024 on the five Star Wars shows scheduled to be released. That is why no Star Wars movies are scheduled to be released next year. According to Empire magazine (via Reddit), some will contain new stories, whereas others will be continuations of established lore.

Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, The Bad Batch Season 3, Andor Season 2, and Tales of the Jedi Season 2 are the shows that will take the front step of the Star Wars universe in the coming year. Out of these five, three of them will be live-action. Jude Law will be entering the universe with Skeleton Crew, which will come from the mastermind of the MCU’s Spider-Man director, Jon Watts. It is set in the post-Return of the Jedi era, and Disney is looking to build a universe where Skeleton Crew will tie together with other shows from this universe, like Ashoka and The Mandalorian.

Andor is already a popular show among fans, and many were highly anticipating its return. It will detail the events of Cassian Andor’s life that will tie up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Acolyte will be more of a mystery thriller series. It will take the point of view of the Sith, making it the first live-action show in the franchise to be told from the Sith’s perspective.

The Bad Batch Season 3 and Tales of the Jedi Season 2 will be the two animated releases of 2024. The Bad Batch Season 3 would conclude the story of the show, and Tales of the Jedi would continue focusing on characters introduced in Season 1, namely Ahsoka Tano, Qui-Gon Jinn, and his Jedi Master, Count Dooku.

Fan reaction to five Star Wars shows dropping in 2024

Although so many Star Wars shows are coming out in 2024, fans only seem to care about just two of them: Andor Season 2 and Tales of the Jedi Season 2. After Culture Crave posted about it on X, many are predicting that these two shows will deliver on what they are promising, but the reaction to the other shows has been lukewarm at best.

This is especially contradictory since Disney head Bob Iger recently announced that Disney will focus more on quality than quantity. Whereas five TV shows from this universe alone in the span of one year don’t necessarily scream that mantra.
