Killers of the Flower Moon is the newest feather in the caps of all those involved which is perhaps one of the perks of being a part of a project by someone who is as good at their job as legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. This is not the first time that a Scorsese movie has made this much noise in the Hollywood entertainment industry, and it certainly would not be the last no matter how controversial some of his opinions are.

At this point, it is doubtful that any Martin Scorsese movies have not won a very prestigious award. Killers of the Flower Moon has turned out to be one of those many movies. Recently, it was announced that Lily Gladstone has been chosen as the Best Actress by the New York Film Critics Circle.

Killers of the Flower Moon, released on October 20, 2023, is an epic Western crime drama based on David Grann’s 2017 non-fiction eponymous book. Set in Oklahoma in the 1920s, the movie centers on the murder of Osage members and the relations between the members of the Osage Nation after oil was found on the tribal land and White people were hell-bent on taking advantage of it.

From Taxi Driver which was the director’s first collaboration with Robert De Niro to Killers of the Flower Moon which happens to be their latest, there are a lot of movies that have achieved unparalleled success. Recently, the New York Film Critics Circle honored the movie with the Best Film Award.

Additionally, Lily Gladstone, who played the role of Mollie Kyle, wife of Ernest Burkhart (portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio), was honored with the Best Actress Award for her performance in the movie (via nyfcc on X, formerly Twitter). The award for Best Director went to Christopher Nolan for the biographical epic Oppenheimer.

The movie featured an ensemble cast with Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, and Robert De Niro playing the lead characters, while Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser played supporting characters. This movie marks the sixth feature film collaboration between Scorsese and DiCaprio and the tenth between Scorsese and De Niro.

Martin Scorsese Does Not Plan to Stop Making Films Any Time Soon

Killers of the Flower Moon has set another milestone for the Silence director as it won the Best Film Award from the New York Film Critics Circle, making it the third Scorsese film to have achieved this feat after Goodfellas in 1990 and The Irishman in 2019. It must have been nice for The Departed director to have impressed the critics of his hometown for a third time, given the competition.

Earlier this year, when Scorsese was asked if he was going to go and make yet another movie, the director assured that he was (via Deadline), saying:

“I’m old. I read stuff. I see things. I want to tell stories, and there’s no more time. Kurosawa, when he got his Oscar, when George [Lucas] and Steven [Spielberg] gave it to him, he said, “I’m only now beginning to see the possibility of what cinema could be, and it’s too late.” He was 83. At the time, I said, “What does he mean?” Now I know what he means.”

The Wolf of Wall Street director is 80 years old now so while fans obviously would not want him to take too much pressure, they would also not want to pass up on the chance to have Scorsese make another movie. Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too long for him to churn out yet another masterpiece.
