Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is arguably one of the best modern isekai anime. However, once you start with the very first episode, it gets a bit overwhelming going forward. The reason for that is that the anime is not just split into seasons. The seasons themselves are split into parts, and there are also special episodes giving other characters’ POVs.
So if you’re started your journey with Rudeus, or are simply confused about where everything was set in the timeline, this article is your final stop. We’ll clear up the entire timeline for you in proper chronological order. Let’s dive in.
How to Watch Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation in Chronological Order?
As of July 2026, by Season 3 of the anime, Studio Bind has adapted a good chunk of the original light novel, covering Rudeus’ journey from his rebirth as a baby, all the way through his time at Ranoa University and his marriage to Sylphy.
There’s still a lot of source material left to animate, but thankfully, the story so far is very linear, and there aren’t many jumps that would make it confusing within the seasons themselves. The following is everything that you need to watch one by one:
1. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Season 1 Part 1

This is where the story starts. A middle-aged, jobless guy (as the name of the anime suggests) dies when he is thrown out of his parents’ house. He dies while saving a bunch of high school students from an oncoming truck and is then reincarnated into another world as a newborn baby.
In this first part of season 1, the story basically follows Rudeus learning magic, forging his friendship with Sylphy, and making his resolve to live like an actual human being in this new life. He also meets Eris in this season and becomes her tutor.
2. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Season 1 Part 2

Immediately after that, what follows is not Season 2, as Season 1 is divided into 2 parts. In this season, part of season 2, Rudeus and Eris start traveling back to their home from the demon continent after being teleported. This is also when the anime finally starts showing how it has one of the best world-building in anime by showing us many different cities and nations during Rudeus and Eris’ travels.
By the end of this entry, Rudeus returns to his home, only to see that there is nothing left there. The season ends with Eris leaving Rudeus, and Rudeus finally making up his mind to go out and find his mother by himself.
3. Mushoku Tensei: Eris the Goblin Slayer (OVA)

This entry is set around the time of Season 1 Episode 16 (also called Season 1 Part 2 Episode 5), when Rudeus reunites with his father and ends up fighting him. During that time, Eris goes on her own little adventure when she meets Cliff, the very same character that Rudeus meets later on as well. This can be watched directly after Season 1 Part 2 Episode 5.
4. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 – Guardian Fitz

This episode shows what happened to Sylphy after the teleportation incident. This is referred to as the zeroth episode of the second season by the official announcement on X. She gets teleported straight into the royal palace of the Asura Kingdom, ends up saving a princess named Ariel from a monster attack, and is recruited as her bodyguard. To keep her identity hidden, she goes by the name “Fitz.”
For accuracy, this can also be watched right before the final episode of Season 1, as at the end of Season 1, we see Fitz talking to the princess about Rudeus at the university. However, for the sake of simplicity, it is recommended to watch it right before Season 2 and treat it as a flashback.
5. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Season 2 Part 1

Rudeus starts making a name for himself by going on various adventures, while also looking for his mother. This is when he finally starts moving on from Eris, as he thinks she left him because she didn’t like him. He meets a new girl, and that’s when he learns that he has difficulty achieving an erection due to the trauma. After another small depression arc, he sets his goal to fix himself and starts his life at Ranoa University.
It is during this time that he encounters Badigadi as well, which is an important event to make note of, as it becomes relevant later on. Good thing for Rudeus is that the primary conflict with his health is resolved, and he learns that Fitz was Sylphy all along.
6. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Season 2 Part 2

Rudeus now has to deal with the conflict with his sister Norn, as she thinks her brother is a useless nobody. Meanwhile, Paul finds where Rudeus’ mother is and calls him for help. We are also properly introduced to Nanahoshi, who turns out to be another person from Japan.
This is where Rudeus’ character development truly starts to shine as well. The season ends with a big tragedy and a big, beautiful moment. Rudeus loses someone important to him, but he then also becomes a father, making it one of the biggest turning points in his life.
7. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation – Season 3

This is where we are right now. As of July 2026, the third season of this anime is airing. From here on, the anime can be watched normally on a weekly basis. At the start of this season, Eris’s training arc under the Sword God consisted of two episodes that aired on the same day.
Following that, this season will pick up on everyday life and the summoning arc. The season is also expected to adapt the Asura Kingdom arc since it will also follow the pattern of the 2 parts (as per the official website).
Where Does Eris’s Training Arc Fit in the Timeline?

This is probably the trickiest part of the whole watch order, so let’s break it down clearly. After Eris walks out on Rudeus at the end of Season 1 Part 2 (that “Dreams and Reality” episode), she goes off to train and grow stronger on her own, and this entire training arc happens off-screen during a time skip.
By the time we see Eris again as a grown-up in Season 3, Episode 2, she lines up with the same point in the timeline as Season 2, Episode 8. That’s the episode where Nina goes looking for Rudeus, ends up running into the dragon god Badigadi, and loses to him before Rudeus himself steps in and beats Badigadi. So Eris’s training arc and Rudeus’s Season 2 adventures are actually happening around the same time, just told through completely different episodes.
Where to Watch the Complete Mushoku Tensei Franchise

For every entry in this anime, Crunchyroll is your best bet. It has the full run of the anime, including Season 3, along with the OVA and special episodes. Hulu also carries the show for those with a subscription. Right now, there aren’t any completely free, legal ways to stream the anime, so picking one of these platforms is your safest bet for catching every arc without missing anything.
